Loads of Manchester United fans have been reacting on Twitter after a report by Diario Madridista, via The Mirror, suggested they would have to pay a €500m (£450m) release clause to bring Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde to Old Trafford.

Having enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the Bernabeu Stadium, the La Liga giants clearly have no intention of letting the Uruguay international considering the quite ridiculous fee it is claimed it would take for him to be prised away from the Spanish capital.

The Mirror says that while the Red Devils aren’t expected to go near Valverde’s reported price tag, they are expected to spend heavily during the next transfer window as they look to build on this season – they currently lie just outside of the top four in the Premier League as we wait for the 2019/20 campaign to resume.

Meanwhile, their South American target has scored two goals and provided a further four assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for Real this term.

Many supporters simply laughed off the report, with one individual calling it “bonkers”.

Considering it would be more than double the current world-record £200m fee that took Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona and given what is going on in the world right now, that is a fair conclusion.

Others compared the central midfield target with current United man Scott McTominay, who has been a regular fixture in the starting XI for United in 2019/20 – the Scot does have five goals in 27 games for the Red Devils this term.

Some of these comments may come with an added bit of tongue in cheek, but there is certainly little to suggest that Valverde is any better, especially when you take his release clause into consideration.

Others chose to speak about Paul Pogba, who continues to be a divisive character at Old Trafford.

The France international has been linked with a move to Real Madrid countless times, with one fan suggesting a swap deal.

Another suggestesd that if Valverde is going to cost £450m, then Pogba must be worth £750m. Silly season, indeed.

Speaking on ITV (as quoted by The Express), Manchester United legend Roy Keane has claimed Marcus Rashford looks like he is “back to his best”.

What did he say?

The 22-year-old has been in sparkling form in recent weeks for the Red Devils, scoring three goals and providing a further assist in his previous four Premier League games.

And on Thursday night, he took that new-found confidence into international duty with England, scoring for the Three Lions in their demolition of Montenegro.

After seeing Rashford’s impressive goal-scoring display, Keane hailed the forward and suggested that any criticism targeted at him is a sign that he is a good player.

He said (as quoted by The Express): “He looks like he has got his confidence back, I think in the last month or so. And what players have to remember, when we’ve been criticising them before, there’s a compliment in there because we believe he’s a really good player. His confidence is up and running again and he looks back to his best.”

Hot streak

What a remarkable turnaround. After going through a drought of scoring just once in a period of seven league games, Rashford just can’t stop finding the back of the net in recent weeks. Anthony Martial’s return from injury has given him the chance to play from the left, and that has proven to be an undoubted catalyst for his upturn in form.

And on Thursday, with Harry Kane leading the line for England, Rashford could once again start from the left-flank. If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on keeping up the £200k-a-week star’s current hot streak at Old Trafford, then he would do well to consistently play him in the position that has seen him deliver the most this season.

QPR lost their second game on the spin after suffering defeat to Cardiff on Wednesday night, following a 2-0 loss to West Brom on Saturday.

Goals from Sean Morrison, Marlon Pack and Callum Paterson gave Neil Warnock’s side a 3-0 win over the Cardiff boss’ former side, but one early moment saw Mark Warburton’s game plan unravel – a moment that witnessed two players’ best traits utilised to perfection.

The danger men

As previously detailed by us, Sean Morrison and Aden Flint are dominant players in the air, and we suggested that the former Brentford boss avoids long balls against the Bluebirds as the Cardiff duo would simply win the majority of the battles.

While Warburton seemingly followed our advice with a free-flowing performance that saw his side complete 483 passes to Cardiff’s 184 – with 458 of them being short passes as per WhoScored – his sensible gameplan began to come apart after one early moment in which the pair’s aerial dominance stood out in a more offensive capacity.

What happened?

After just 11 minutes they combined for the opening goal. Flint leapt highest to win the first ball, before Morrison threw himself at the second ball to head home into the net.

And that was a bit of a theme – Flint grabbed the assist for Morrison’s goal and in total won three aerial duels in QPR’s half, highlighting Cardiff’s propensity to use his best quality. Morrison was clearly a huge beneficiary, having scored the opener.

Flint, formerly of Bristol City, has won 5.6 aerial duels per game in the Championship this season, whereas Morrison has averaged 5.4 – the latter won the WhoScored Man of the Match award for his performance against QPR.

Warburton did well to ensure that his side kept the ball on the ground for the majority of the game, but that 11th minute moment saw Cardiff’s aerial might come to the fore in a different manner, and QPR weren’t able to deal with it.

It gave the R’s an uphill battle for the remaining 79 minutes of the game, allowed Cardiff a foothold to eventually secure a 3-0 win.

Sheffield Wednesday kept up their good early start under Garry Monk as they hammered Middlesbrough 4-1 on their own turf in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls have been excellent so far under the former Boro boss, with them winning two and drawing one and they certainly look play-off contenders at this point in the campaign.

Indeed, Monk has done well to keep things rather settled at the club, rather than rip things up as Jos Luhukay looked to do at times last season – which eventually cost him his job.

The former Swansea boss is doing a good job in these very early stages, then, and it seems as though the players are pretty happy with the way things are, too, given what some of them have said on social media since the full-time whistle.

West Brom’s young Baggies beat Fulham under-23s in their Premier League 2 game on Monday evening, earning new boss Michael Appleton his first three points since taking charge.

Deadline day arrival Chris Willock featured for the full 90 minutes but it was the goal scoring performance of Nick Clayton-Phillips that caught the eye of many of the Hawthorns faithful.

The 19-year-old winger curled home an effort from range on the 25th minute as the under-23s went on to win 3-1.

He spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Vanarama National League North side Kidderminster Harriers but it seems that some Baggies fans would like to see him involved in the first team this season.

One supporter believed that the first team chance would come soon enough if he continues to work hard whilst another added that he is simply ‘too good.’

A further fan suggested that the duo of Willock and Clayton-Phillips is ‘deadly.’

وأضاف: “هناك بعض التفاصيل الصغيرة التي للأسف لا يفهمها اللاعب الصغير لكن يمكنها أن تُحدث الفارق وتقودك للحصول على النقاط”.

وأردف بيرلو: “عندما تتقدم يجب أن تحافظ على تقدمك وتعود بالنتيجة إلى أرضك، كنا نفتقد الكثير من اللاعبين ذوي الخبرة، لذلك لم يفهم الشباب الطريقة التي كانت تسير بها المباراة، طلبت من كريستيانو رونالدو وأليكس ساندرو التحدث إليهما، لكن هذا لم يكن كافيًا”.

واستطرد: “فكرت في اللعب بأربعة في الدفاع، لكني نظرت إلى مقاعد البدلاء ولم يكن لدي حقًا خيارات التغيير، رأيت بعض اللاعبين الذين بدأوا يتعبون بعد مرور ساعة، لكن هذا كان متوقعًا”.

وتابع مدرب يوفنتوس: “خططنا للعب بخطة 3-4-2-1 مع وجود رامسي وكولوسيفسكي خلف رونالدو، لذلك سنضغط على قلب الدفاع وندعم رونالدو”.

بيرلو أكمل: “في الشوط الثاني، لم نعد نملك الطاقة لمواصلة الضغط عليهم وفتحت المساحات أمام فيرونا، نحن نعلم أن كثافة فيرونا تجبرك على استهلاك الكثير من طاقتك، ونحن نلعب العديد من المباريات في تتابع سريع، ولا يوجد عدد كافٍ من اللاعبين، لذا سيكون الإرهاق مشكلة”.

وشدد: “فيرونا يضغط عليك في جميع أنحاء الملعب، لذلك عليك التفكير بسرعة قبل أن تصل الكرة إليك للتحقق من مكان زملائك في الفريق ويمكنهم القيام بالتمريرة قبل أن يغلقوا المساحات أمامك”.

وأكد بيرلو: “كانت لدينا فرص للسيطرة إنه لأمر مؤسف أننا لم نحتفظ بهذه الميزة، ليس لدينا مهاجمون يمكنهم فقط السيطرة على الكرة، لذلك نحن بحاجة إلى اللعب من الخلف، كان الأمر صعبًا اليوم، حيث ضغطت فيرونا ضغطًا عاليًا، ولم يكن الملعب في أفضل حالة أيضًا”.

وبسؤاله هل يعتمد يوفنتوس بشكل كبير على كريستيانو رونالدو في تسجيل أهدافه؟، وأجاب: “نحن في حالة طوارئ، لكن حاولنا العمل بشكل جيد مع ما لدينا، لسنا فقط من نفتقد لاعبين مثل باولو ديبالا وألفارو موراتا، ولكن أي فريق سيفتقدهم”.
