In their quest for their first MLS Cup victory, FC Cincinnati has had a solid start to the new season. They are currently placed second in the Eastern Conference with 17 points after their first eight games.

They are in second place despite a humiliating loss to St. Louis City last time out. The Orange and Blue started the season with a seven-match unbeaten streak and five triumphs, partly due to a solid defensive record in which they only allowed four goals throughout that span.

However, they face a tricky opponent in the Portland Timbers, who are coming off a confidence-boosting victory against Seattle Sounders.

Giovanni Savarese's team began the MLS season with a victory over Sporting Kansas City at home, but that performance did not set the tone for what came next.

They went six games without recording another league triumph, earning just two points along the way from draws with LA Galaxy and Dallas after consecutive losses to Los Angeles FC, St. Louis City, and Atlanta United.

GOAL brings you everything you need to know about where to watch the game on TV and stream live online.

More World Cup misery for Messi! Argentina winners, losers and ratings as Saudi Arabia pull off the unthinkable

The iconic No.10 opened the scoring in his final World Cup but ended up on the wrong side of a remarkable result in Lusail.

Argentina's unbeaten run is over. The World Cup has its first upset. And it's a whopper, too, with a sensational performance from Saudi Arabia leaving Lionel Messi & Co. in a state of shock.

In his fifth and final tournament, the 34-year-old is facing more World Cup misery after his nation's humiliating 2-1 defeat in their opening game at Qatar 2022.

It had all been going so well for Messi. He opened the scoring with an early penalty, thus becoming only the fifth player to score in four World Cups.

However, Argentina failed to add that crucial second goal, with the captain and his fellow forwards repeatedly caught out by Saudi Arabia's high line.

The underdogs then turned the game, and Group C, on its head by scoring with their first two shots on goal in a fantastic five-minute spell at the start of the second half, with Saleh Al-Shehri equalising before Salem Al-Dawsari produced a wonderful solo strike.

Messi tried to rally his side but not even the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner could deny an inspired Saudi Arabia arguably the biggest upset the World Cup has ever witnessed.

Below, GOAL runs through the winners and losers on a jaw-dropping afternoon in Lusail…

Getty ImagesThe Winners

Salem Al-Dawsari:

We have an early contender for goal of the tournament! Al-Shehri's equaliser clearly stunned Argentina – as well as the rest of the world – and Salem Al-Dawsari took full advantage, picking up possession on the left-hand side of the box and jinking past Rodrigo De Paul with impressive ease before bending the ball into the far corner of Emiliano Martinez's net. The goalkeeper did get a touch on the ball but there was no spoiling the aesthetic beauty of a goal that was as sublime as it was shocking. The celebration wasn't bad either…

Mexico and Poland:

The expectation was that Mexico and Poland would be playing for second spot when they faced off in Doha, but top spot is now very much up for grabs. The Saudis have shown that Argentina are far from invulnerable. Lionel Scaloni's side are brittle at the back and, from a mental perspective, they will now be on edge going into their two remaining fixtures. That can only be good news for Mexico and Poland. You can be damn sure that Robert Lewandowski, for one, will be looking forward to facing this Argentina defence!

Saudi Arabia:
Of course, Saudi Arabia will be targeting a place in the last 16 themselves – and rightly so. Anything is possible after beating Argentina. Indeed, it's difficult to overstate the scale of their achievement. Going by the world rankings, Saudi Arabia (51) are the second-weakest team at Qatar 2022, and yet they've just beaten a side many tipped to take home the trophy. It was a truly seismic result. There were players, supporters and even journalists from both nations in tears at full-time. No matter what happens next, though, Herve Renard's players' place in World Cup folklore is already secure. They have achieved instant immortality at home. And also, from a neutral perspective, given everyone a timely reminder of the beauty of the World Cup, where dreams sometimes do come true.

VAR consistency:

VAR confusion is nothing new, of course. It's been a source of controversy since day one. However, its application at this World Cup is going to be very, very interesting given what we've seen over the past three days, particularly in relation to pushing and pulling in the penalty area. Indeed, on Monday afternoon, Harry Maguire was essentially wrestled to the ground by Rouzbeh Cheshmi during the early stages of England's win over Iran, and yet VAR didn't intervene. However, less than 24 hours later, a penalty was awarded to Argentina after Saud Abdulhamid had grappled with Leandro Paredes in the area. It was technically a foul but, in the context of what we see in the box in every single game, it was soft, and certainly nowhere near as bad as Cheshmi's takedown on Maguire. One would hope that a mistake had simply been made in the England game. Consistency is, however, key now. It is imperative that every single incident of holding, shoving or shirt-pulling is also punished with a penalty. Otherwise, there is only going to be further uproar.

Cristian Romero:

By no means the only Argentine to underperform, but it came as no surprise to see the Tottenham centre-back replaced just before the hour mark having been made to look painfully slow by Al-Shehri for Saudi Arabia's equaliser. Before the game, it was thought that Nicolas Otamendi might be the weak link in the centre of the defence but it was Romero who was exposed. It would not be a surprise to see the 24-year-old dropped for the must-win meeting with Mexico on Saturday and replaced in the starting line-up by Lisandro Martinez.

Argentina's sense of timing:

This was a hell of a time for Argentina's 36-game unbeaten run to come to an end. But they only have themselves to blame. Of course, they had three goals disallowed in the first half and some of the offside calls were ridiculously close. For example, Lautaro's brilliant dinked finish was disallowed because his shoulder was ahead of the last man. However, there's no denying that Argentina struggled to get to grips with the Saudis' high line. They were caught offside seven times in the first half alone. Once it became clear that their opponents weren't going to ditch their high-risk/high-reward approach, the likes of Lautaro really should have started checking their runs a tad. As it was, they continued to fall into the Saudis' expertly-executed offside trap. The net result is that one of the tournament favourites are now facing an embarrassingly early exit, given this was supposed to be their easiest game in Group C. The threat of elimination will hang over them going into their two remaining fixtures, against Mexico and Poland. They are, as Lautaro admitted, "two finals". Lose either and Messi's last dance could turn into a damp squib.

Getty ImagesArgentina Ratings: Defence

Emiliano Martinez (5/10):

Didn't actually have much to do. Saudi Arabia had just three shots on goal, yet two of them went in, which is never a good look for a goalkeeper…

Nahuel Molina (5/10):

One of Argentina's better defenders but it was a low bar. The winner came down his side and he didn't offer enough going forward either, which is strange, as that's usually his forte.

Cristian Romero (3/10):

As mentioned above, a dire display brought to a premature end by Scaloni.

Nicolas Otamendi (6/10):

Definitely the dominant member of Argentina's centre-back pairing. Won plenty of headers and tackles and won't be best pleased with the efforts of those around him.

Nicolas Tagliafico (5/10):

Went agonisingly close to scoring an equaliser but was well below his best and was taken off with 19 minutes left.

Rodrigo De Paul (4/10):

Despite his underwhelming form at Atletico Madrid, big things were expected of De Paul, who has looked a different player for his country. However, his passing was desperately poor, while he was beaten far too easily for Saudi Arabia's winner.

Leandro Paredes (3/10):

It was Paredes who was dragged down for the penalty but he just didn't impress himself upon proceedings in the way he should have and he was unsurprisingly taken off after 59 minutes.

Stoneman lifts Durham to valuable win

Durham’s limited-overs captain Mark Stoneman made the county’s second highest Twenty20 score of 89 not out to lead his side to a 38-run NatWest T20 Blast win over Leicestershire

Durham’s limited-overs captain Mark Stoneman made the county’s second highest Twenty20 score of 89 not out to lead his side to a 38-run NatWest T20 Blast win over Leicestershire.Defeat was a blow to Leicestershire’s hopes of reaching the last eight as they prepare to lose the O’Brien brothers, Niall and Kevin, to Ireland’s ICC World T20 qualification bid. They were also without skipper Mark Cosgrove, as his wife was about to give birth, and acting captain Grant Elliott left himself with too much to do.Elliott went in at 35 for 3 in the seventh over in reply to 163 for 5 and when Ben Raine was run out three overs later 106 were needed off the last ten. After securing a tie against Yorkshire by conceding only five in the last over, it was an unhappy return to his home county for Raine. He took none for 56 and spent 20 balls over 19 runs when sent in at No. 4.When Elliott fell lbw trying to hit Scott Borthwick to leg in the 11th over the remaining batsmen faced a hopeless cause and they were all out for 125 with one ball unused.Insights

Usman Arshad had an outstanding match. His quickfire 28 – which included just one boundary but plenty of good running between the wickets – in a 65-run partnership with Stoneman saved Durham after a mild middle-overs stumble, then Arshad picked up three wickets with his nagging seam bowling, including in-form Agathangelou and danger man Kevin O’Brien with consecutive deliveries in his first over, and proved very difficult to get away, conceding just one boundary and bowling 12 dots. Arshad’s was an unglamorous but extremely telling contribution.

Stoneman helped Durham recover from 98 for 5 in the 14th over. Only Phil Mustard, with 91 at home to Yorkshire two years ago, has scored more in a T20 innings for Durham. The victory ended a run of three defeats for Durham as they prepare to visit Worcestershire on Sunday.Stoneman survived difficult chances off skied leg-side shots on 27 and 73 and cashed in with two straight sixes in the last three overs off Raine. He also hit seven fours in scoring his runs off 60 balls.Usman Arshad contributed 28 off 19 balls to the unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 65 to make sure Durham reached the sort of total they threatened when racing to 45 after four overs after being put in on a glorious evening.Durham were stifled by the offspin of Rob Sayer, a 20-year-old whose only previous first-team appearance was in a one-day match against New Zealand last month. He wasn’t afraid to pitch the ball up and took both wickets through Gordon Muchall and Ryan Pringle clipping to wide mid-on.Arshad continued his excellent night with two wickets in two balls in the third over of the reply. Andrea Agathangelou was bowled attempting to scoop a straight ball to fine leg then Kevin O’Brien drove at the next ball and got a thick inside edge to midwicket. Tom Wells hit three sixes in his 27, but it was all over when he was brilliantly caught at long-on by Pringle to give Arshad a third wicket.

'Dropped catches a cause for concern' – Ramdin

Happy with the batting and bowling, West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin asked his team to improve their fielding ahead of the second Test in St Lucia. West Indies won the first Test by ten wickets, with more than two sessions to go, but five dropped catches soured the bonhomie at Arnos Vale. The win was put together by Kraigg Brathwaite’s maiden double-hundred, Suleiman Benn’s five-wicket haul and a late burst by Kemar Roach, who took four wickets in the second innings. But Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored his third Test century, was the biggest beneficiary of West Indies’ fielding lapses. He got four lives – Chris Gayle dropping him at first slip on 10, Darren Bravo dropping him at gully on 25, Gayle again dropping him on 71 and finally Jerome Taylor dropping a sitter at mid-on when he was on 115.Kirk Edwards also put down a simple chance offered by Mahmudullah on the fourth day when the batsman skied the ball straight to cover.”It [the dropped catches] is a cause for concern,” Ramdin said. “It is very important we work on those areas. Our slip catching has hampered us in the past and in St Lucia we definitely need to hold all our chances.”I think our team is in a good place. Our batsmen are getting runs and our bowlers are getting wickets. We hope the pitch at St Lucia will be a lot greener than the one we have had here.”Ramdin commended Bangladesh for their fightback in the second innings and said that the 130-run partnership between Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah had taken the game away from West Indies a little, helped along by their poor slip-catching.”I think after the first innings, they came back and batted well in the second innings. They applied themselves. It was going to be hard following on, our bowlers had a good run in the first innings,” Ramdin said. “It was a good pitch, I would say, went better as the game went along.”Mushfiqur Rahim came in and batted really well with Mahmudullah. I think that was the partnership that took it away a little from us. But we bowled in some good areas and created chances. We didn’t take our slip catching as well as we wanted to.”Ramdin praised Kemar Roach’s four-wicket haul on the final day but he was profuse while talking about Kraigg Brathwaite who made his maiden Test double-hundred to help set up West Indies’ first innings.”Roach bowled exceptionally well on a flat pitch, and he was backed up by the bowlers as well,” Ramdin said. “Brathwaite is definitely going from strength to strength and is displaying immense maturity. We hope he can continue on to bigger and better things. [Shivnarine] Chanderpaul also batted well to support Brathwaite.”Brathwaite, adjudged man of the match, was understated when talking about his own performance, calling it a result of training harder to play against spin.”It was a difficult pitch but I worked hard and it brought me success,” Brathwaite said. “I got a lot better against spin bowling and I have been working on some things with the bowling machine, but I still have a long way to go. Every time I go out I try to get as much as possible. Next game I will come back and work hard for the team.”

Jorge Jesus avalia positivamente o primeiro teste à frente do Flamengo

O camisa 3 comentou o início do trabalho com o treinador Jorge Jesus e a atuação do time.

Estamos no caminho certo.

Royals take 6 for 2 to steal game

Kolkata Knight Riders’ openers put on 121 for the first wicket but they lost six wickets for two runs to crash to a stunning defeat against Rajasthan Royals

The Report by Alagappan Muthu05-May-2014
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details7:50

Hattangadi: KKR confused, lack self-belief

Gautam Gambhir had hoped Kolkata Knight Riders had learned from conceding winning positions in multiple matches this season, but losing six wickets for two runs after 70% of the target of 171 had been mowed down by a century stand between himself and Robin Uthappa indicated there was still a lot of work left to do. Rajasthan Royals were the beneficiaries this time as they recorded their fourth victory in five IPL matches in Ahmedabad. An equation of 50 from the final six overs is not cause for alarm and Knight Riders had all 10 wickets in hand, but the events that unfolded at Motera were almost unfathomable. Shane Watson pried out Gambhir to tip the dominoes. An inexplicable promotion for Andre Russell did not last long and before the over ended three wickets were down. Pravin Tambe claimed a hat-trick off the first three balls of the next over to complete the worst collapse for the first six wickets in T20 history. Before those nightmarish few minutes, Uthappa had cemented the team’s belief in him by melding stability and enterprise together. His fluency allowed Gambhir to work himself into form. Both batsmen embraced percentage cricket, concentrating on keeping a straight face coming down on the ball. Uthappa used his feet to bolster his hits through and over mid-on while Gambhir peppered the cover boundary. It wasn’t the most eye-catching innings but it was what Knight Riders needed from their captain and victory seemed more probable than the eventual outcome.Suryakumar Yadav and Shakib Al Hasan were suddenly faced with a required rate over 11 in the final four overs. They swung and swiped and even enjoyed a couple of free hits but they could not muster the necessary pace. Having drained the wind from Knight Riders’ sails, Watson returned to bowl an intelligent final over to finish things off. This is the second time a week that Royals have stolen a match from under Knight Riders’ noses. Gambhir’s men couldn’t overhaul an equation of 16 of 12 and lost after the match was pushed into a Super Over. After Royals were sent in, Karun Nair and Ajinkya Rahane found little trouble dealing with the early overs. The pitch was marked with patches of grass but no matter how much the KKR bowlers willed it, their search for movement was in vain. A few easy flicks to the square boundary on the leg side kickstarted their half-century partnership that was eventually undone by a run out. Nair’s season had begun with two single-figure scores and he had to overcome a sluggish beginning during his half-century against Delhi Daredevils. But once he did, he showcased some effective shots and today he seemed to pick up where he had left off. A second successive fifty wasn’t on the cards, though.Sanju Samson, at No.3, ensured there was no loss in momentum with some smart shots to drive Royals past their hundred. Watson’s proclivity to hit straight down the ground hinted at a big total on the horizon. Knight Riders pulled things back in the last four overs but the 35 runs that the home side managed during that period proved more than enough.
