Griezmann and Tolisso reply to Mendy’s latest Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

You can’t help but feel that Benjamin Mendy is one of the unluckiest players around at the moment and especially in the Premier League.

Even though he has two English crowns to his name already, he simply can’t catch a break with all those injuries hampering his career. Just last season, Mendy suffered from three different injuries, including a meniscal problem, foot injury and knee surgery.

This, when all put together, meant that he missed a total of 33 games, putting only ten appearances under his belt in the Premier League and two in the Champions League.

He did recover towards the end of the season, but was used very sparingly by Pep Guardiola bar one game in April against Crystal Palace.

That is not stopping him from having a great summer though, as the Frenchman posted a holiday snap on Instagram that immediately caught the eye of multiple superstars.

Antoine Griezmann was among the first ones to comment as the coveted forward just had one word to say to the recovering Citizen, which roughly translates into “dude”.

Corentin Tolisso, Bayern Munich’s ace, was also on the scene and just replied with a series of emojis.

There’s no denying that Mendy is an excellent left-back and Guardiola will be eager to have him back in the squad. In his ten Premier League appearances, he still managed five assists, which is a great return, especially for a defender.

Wouldn’t mind that: Liverpool fans discuss a move for Cardiff’s Neil Etheridge

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans on Twitter have been discussing reports linking them with a move for Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, who the Reds have reportedly made an enquiry about after an impressive 2018/19 season for the glovesman.

The Philippines international played in all 38 Premier League games for the Bluebirds last term, keeping an impressive 10 clean sheets, but unfortunately couldn’t do enough to help the Welsh side avoid the drop.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

However, his excellent performances mean an immediate return to the top-flight could be on – Etheridge is also of interest to Aston Villa, who have had an £8m bid knocked back.

Jurgen Klopp seems to be on the lookout for a new No.2 keeper, with Simon Mignolet carrying an uncertain future after losing his place to Alisson – The Mirror reports that he will not be sold unless the Reds find a replacement.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans have been saying about a potential swoop for the 29-year-old…

West Ham: Dani Ceballos could be a revelation in east London

Making the move to Real Madrid, no matter how good you are, invites a tonne of pressure on how well you perform for the Spanish giants.

We have seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema thrive for Los Blancos whereas Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez have faltered in the Spanish capital, and for Dani Ceballos, the youngster falls into the latter.

Since making the move from Real Betis to Madrid for a reported £14.5 million the 22-year-old midfielder has found it hard to find a permanent place in the starting XI and could be on the way out of the club after just two years at Real, and West Ham are interested.

According to the Express, Manuel Pellegrini has opened talks with Madrid over the signing of Ceballos, who could leave for just £20 million, and pulling off such a deal would be a steal for West Ham.

Although game time has been limited at Real Madrid, Ceballos is still a player who could make an impact and impress at a top-division side, and having been likened to Cesc Fabregas in the past, the Spanish international would be a welcome signing for the Hammers.

As well as being an overall quality signing for the club, Ceballos would add much-needed creativity to the Irons, who have been heavily reliant on Felipe Anderson this season. With the Spanish playmaker in the side, though, the burden will be lessened for the Brazilian winger.

Ceballos would be a coup for West Ham if they are able to pull off the signing, and the Spaniard would bring something new to the team that have needed a new dynamic for the past few seasons. If David Gold and Sullivan splash the cash, that is.

West Ham fans, would Ceballos be a good signing? Let us know!

Best player on the pitch: Aston Villa fans loved Anwar El Ghazi performance

[ad_pod ]

Anwar El Ghazi was very, very good for Aston Villa on Monday afternoon.

The 24-year-old caused Derby County all sorts of problems in the Championship playoff final and it was his goal that opened the scoring at Wembley Stadium.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old had a pass success rate of 88%, in addition to managing three shots and four dribbles during his 90 minutes on the field.

Villa secured a return to the Premier League courtesy of a 2-1 win on the afternoon.

And it would be fair to say that the club’s supporters were absolutely delighted with the performance of El Ghazi.

The 24-year-old is only on loan at Villa Park from Lille and it remains to be seen what happens with him in this summer’s transfer window.

The Netherlands international will always remember the time that he scored at Wembley, though, and his performance has been hailed by a large number of Villa fans on social media:

Ademola Lookman would be a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace now have their Premier League safety secure yet instead of putting the flip-flops on, they’re striving for a top ten finish.

Albeit it is very unlikely, fans must be loving the effort and work-rate Roy Hodgson’s team continue to put in to each and every game. Now it’s just about building up the quality. Easy, right?

The team really look like one this season and with the right improvements over the summer, Selhurst Park could be celebrating a lot more than Premier League survival. Still, the Eagles’ biggest problem this summer will be who they manage to keep beyond this season.

With rumours again circulating about Wilfried Zaha leaving in the summer, it is about time Crystal Palace at least got prepared for that possibility, namely by acquiring Everton’s Ademola Lookman.

Lookman, (who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt) is undoubtedly a very talented winger that would make a huge difference to their team if given the chance. Despite his undeniable potential, Everton haven’t used him anywhere near to his full capabilities – shame on them – whereas Crystal Palace could.

The 21-year-old is without a Premier League goal in 18 attempts this season but if fans quickly cast their minds back to his brief spell in the Bundesliga, his true potential was unlocked very quickly. With Palace linked with a move for the former Charlton youngster in the Daily Mail earlier this week, it seems like a match made in heaven.

Like a lot of young players, particularly wingers, Ademola Lookman is a confidence player but with the right players around him, he could thrive alongside the likes of Zaha and Andros Townsend.

Not only would he just be back-up, Lookman is more than good enough to get himself straight into the starting line-up and make a real difference, showing Everton what can happen when fully entrusted. If he does, it could be good news for both club and country.

Do you agree Ademola Lookman would make a good signing? If not, why not? Join the discussion and let us know!

Leeds will be praying Jack Clarke doesn’t follow in Lewis Cook’s footsteps

Leeds United fans must be in dreamland at this moment in time as their side continue to march towards the Premier League, with Sheffield United’s slip-ups helping the cause.

The Whites would love nothing more than to be able to bring in a number of big-name players in the summer transfer window with Premier League football already in the bag.

However, it looks as if they could lose two of their current stars in the summer, as according to Football Insider, Bournemouth are planning a £25 million double swoop for Jack Clarke and Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips has been simply sensational this season and deserves to make the step up to the Premier League, so the Whites may have to wave goodbye to him if they fail to secure promotion.

Jack Clarke’s future is more worrying for Leeds fans as he has the potential to become a future star having shone throughout the current campaign at Elland Road. He’s produced an impressive two goals and two assists this season, which has helped the Whites secure a number of valuable points.

Of course, fans will be praying he doesn’t take inspiration from former Leeds man Lewis Cook, who left Elland Road to join Bournemouth back in 2016 for £6.3 million (as per Transfermarkt). Cook was in a very similar position to Clarke when he left so it’s important that Leeds tie him down to a new deal before the Premier League snaps him up.

Indeed, losing a player like Clarke would be gutting for everyone involved with the club as he’s made fans smile this season and it’s safe to say they wouldn’t be in the position they currently find themselves in without his efforts.

Leeds United fans, surely seeing Clarke leave this summer would be devastating? Join the discussion by commenting down below!

Alioski shows he has what it takes to deliver at both ends of the pitch

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United maintained pace with the Championship title race with their 4-0 hammering of fellow promotion hopefuls West Brom at Elland Road on Friday night.

The Whites took the lead against the Baggies inside 20 seconds when Pablo Hernandez found the top corner in spectacular fashion from range. Patrick Bamford then struck twice, before left-back Ezgjan Alioski added a well-deserved fourth late on.

Who has been the Championship’s best player this season? The Pl>ymaker FC squad discuss in the video below…

It was deserved as a reward for what was a fine all-round performance. The 27-year-old Leeds man produced an all-action display, seemingly covering every blade of grass as he pressed, harried and chased the opposition relentlessly. It is remarkable that he still had the energy to break into the West Brom penalty area during stoppage time to score his goal.

The Macedonian, who continues to be picked at left-back by Marcelo Bielsa despite the return of Barry Douglas, was persistently willing to join the attack, and got forward repeatedly throughout the match. As well as finding the net, he also tried to create, and delivered two crosses in the game, as per WhoScored’s stats.

More impressive, though, was how comfortable and effective Alioski was in performing his defensive duties. The 25-cap international made two clearances against Darren Moore’s side, and also produced nine tackles – far more than any other player on the pitch. He was also heavily involved throughout, having 72 touches.

With this eye-catching display, Alioski proved that he what it takes to make a real difference at both ends of the pitch for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Manchester City doing the right thing in extending Vincent Kompany’s contract

Vincent Kompany has had to face quite a few injury demons over the years but has inherited incredible support from Manchester City. While the City captain’s barely featured this season, the defending champions are not going to lose faith in him.

With his contract running down in the summer, Kompany is set to be handed a new one-year deal (according to Daily Mail). The love for each other is quite mutual, as Kompany is set to take a pay-cut in order to stay at the blue side of Manchester. While City have enough cover for Kompany, they’ve earned the respect of many with their devotion towards him.

Kompany’s only made nine appearances for City and keeping one clean sheet (stats via Premier League). Ravaged by injury problems, Kompany’s doubtful to regain full fitness anytime soon, in terms of ever getting back to his absolute best. However, being a reliable leader, he still has much to give to City both on the field and off it as well.

With his incredible knowledge of the Premier League, he can be a guiding figure for improving young defenders Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, who’ve formed a formidable partnership. He’s also the ideal ambassador for City and has the dedication to increasing their popularity all over the world.

Despite his age, Kompany is still a rock-solid figure at the back when he’s completely fit and raring to go. With City looking to maintain their stature as a European giant, retaining a vital figure like Kompany is key to forming traditions for the future.
