Former Manchester United ace Robin van Persie can’t get enough of Paul Scholes

[ad_pod ]On Wednesday night, during Vincent Kompany’s testimonial, we witnessed greatness in action. It didn’t come from any of the current Manchester City Premier League stars, though, nor the recently retired legends who were still fresh and healthy from their freshly disposed of training schedules.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Instead, it came in the form of a squat Paul Scholes, a man who looks like he could still do a job for a faltering Red Devils side who have won just one game so far this season.

They find themselves short of real creative talent in a midfield that consists of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred, Andreas Pereira, and Nemanja Matic. Sleep inducing stuff.

Indeed, like riding a bike, the midfielder has never lost it. Crossfield passes being launched around like they’re going out of fashion, short, slick linkup play that harkened back to the glory days of old when he was playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, and of course, the most special pass of them all – a no-look defence splitter.

It was a piece of play so good it was shared by ex-United ace Robin van Persie, who also represented the Premier League All-Stars…

Tottenham fans cannot wait for Heung-min Son to return to action

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur will have Heung-min Son available this weekend after the attacker missed his team’s first two Premier League matches of the 2019-20 campaign through suspension.

Indeed, the 27-year-old was unable to face either Aston Villa or Manchester City due to a red card that he picked up in the latter stages of last season.

Son will be available for Tottenham’s home game against Newcastle United on Sunday, though, and it would be fair to say that the London club’s fans are looking forward to seeing the South Korean once again.

The attacker was in outstanding form for Mauricio Pochettino’s side during the 2018-19 campaign – scoring 20 times and registering 10 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Spurs have managed to collect four points from their two league games in Son’s absence, but his return is massive at this stage of the campaign.

And it will be very interesting to see whether Pochettino throws the attacker straight back into the XI against the Magpies.

Either way, the club’s supporters cannot wait.

Crystal Palace would have another exciting attacker in Jean-Kevin Augustin

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are weighing up making a move for £15m-rated Red Bull Leipzig attacker Jean-Kevin Augustin before Thursday’s deadline, and the Eagles would have another electric attacker in their ranks if Steve Parish is willing to spend.

What’s the word, then?

Sky Sports report that the south London outfit, along with Premier League rivals Aston Villa, are considering bids for the 22-year-old, who the Bundesliga side are willing to sell as long as they recoup the £15m they paid to bring him in from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

Sky Sports report that Ligue 1 duo Monaco and Nice are also keen on the France U21 international, who found regular starts hard to come by in Germany last season.

Augustin has scored 20 goals in 67 appearances for Leipzig, enjoying his best spell with the team under the tutelage of current Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl in 2017/18.

Another electric attacker

The young Frenchman may have struggled to feature on a regular basis for his current employers in recent times, but it is hard to ignore the impact he has made.

[ad_pod ]

Take last term for example. The 22-year-old scored three Bundesliga goals in just 452 minutes on the pitch with 13 of his 17 outings coming from the substitutes’ bench, as per WhoScored.

The previous year under Hasenhuttl, he netted nine times and provided a further five assists in 1,253 minutes across 25 outings, only 14 of which were starts.

The France U21 international is clearly a threat in the final third, and there is no doubting his pace and power should he arrive at Selhurst Park, with current teammate Willi Orban once describing him as ‘quick and composed’.

Should Palace keep hold of Wilfried Zaha, those two plus Andros Townsend would have the makings of a potentially exciting and speedy front three in 2019/20 given the current Eagles duo had 29 goal involvements between them last time out.

Have Sky Sports been exposed as liars this summer? Watch the video below to find out why…

However, it ultimately all depends on whether Steve Parish is willing to splash the cash, seeing as Palace’s only additions so far this summer have been Stephen Henderson, Jordan Ayew and Gary Cahill, two of which cost nothing and the other £2.5m.

Even their potential move for Victor Camarasa looks set to be a loan fee with a view to a permanent deal in 2020, as the Eagles look set for a low summer of spending despite receiving an initial £45m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

Tottenham defender Serge Aurier wants departure this summer

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Serge Aurier wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, per The Times.

What’s the word?

The Ivory Coast international has yet to play for the club in 2019/20, though he was on the bench for the opener against Aston Villa.

Instead, manager Mauricio Pochettino has opted to play Kyle Walker-Peters in both fixtures following the sale of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer.

And the report claims that Aurier is keen to play regularly and, as such, is seeking a move away from the club prior to the European transfer deadline.

The Times reports that he could either move to a Serie A club or make a return to Ligue 1, having previously played for French champions PSG.

A poor defender

Aurier has never really been good enough for Spurs.

Per WhoScored, in 2018/19, the Ivory Coast international made eight appearances in total and made 2.1 fouls per game. By comparison, he made 2.5 tackles, so let’s assume that just 0.4 of those were successful.

Poor in the attacking third too, Aurier has made a total of six assists for Spurs in 36 appearances.

With Walker-Peters seeming to grab his chance with both hands at right-back, it makes little sense to keep Aurier around.

Granting him his wish and selling him this summer, then, would alleviate a major problem for Spurs.

Celtic fans aren’t happy with Lewis Morgan after abject display against Cluj

[ad_pod ]

Lewis Morgan did not impress the fans in his 66 minutes on the pitch against Cluj, as the Bhoys drew 1-1 in their penultimate Champions League qualification tie.

Now that the dust has settled on the English transfer window, finally bringing the Kieran Tierney saga to an end, fans are reflecting on the clash with Cluj, and they’re not best pleased with Morgan.

A lovely left-footed James Forrest strike that clipped the inside of the post gave Neil Lennon’s men the draw and a crucial away goal, after falling behind in the 28th minute thanks to a crisp Mario Rondon finish.

Morgan though, who was deputising for Mikey Johnston with the youngster out injured, was lucky not to be hooked even earlier by Neil Lennon, earning just a six out of ten from fan site 67 Hail Hail, who said: “He failed to ever find the right pass or cross.”

It was a real opportunity for the 22-year-old with Lennon preferring him over the more experienced Scott Sinclair. Yet, given the supporters’ comments, it doesn’t sound like he took his chance.

Wrong man: 3 reasons Tottenham can do so much better than Hiroki Sakai

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur look set to finally make some strides in the transfer market this summer and they are keen on signing Marseille’s right-back, Hiroki Sakai, Sky Sports report.

The 29-year-old defender is supposedly Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred profile for the position in the wake of Kieran Trippier’s continued uncertainty regarding his future at the club. Serge Aurier doesn’t seem to be nailed on for a place at Tottenham next season either.

But at this point in Tottenham’s ascendancy, the Argentine manager should be aiming for only the very best. Here are three reasons why Tottenham Hotspur can do much better than Sakai…

Not an obvious improvement

This is probably the first thing that comes to mind when reading these reports – why would Spurs even go for the Japanese defender when he would not really represent an upgrade on Trippier? A simple glance at his statistical achievements last season in Ligue 1 attests to that – Sakai recorded four assists and scored one goal. It’s comparable to the Englishman’s own tally but from a much worse top flight.

Too old

The other problem here is that he is one year older than Trippier. He boasts a lot of experience having been to two World Cups and appeared 56 times for Japan so far. But it doesn’t really fit the Spurs ethos of buying younger talents, preferably under 23 as Sky Sports understand, and then letting Pochettino do his magic and groom them into superstars. Sakai would be a step in the wrong direction – a stopgap rather than a forward movement.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

Sakai is not the real reflection of the “new Tottenham”

Spurs have always been close to the top but could rarely actually reach it, and their rather scarce trophy cabinet is probably the best proof for that, but with their big strides in the latest iteration of the Champions League, the tides just might be shifting for them. For that reason, Tottenham should finally leave the Sakais behind them and start poaching targets that are more fitting of their renewed pedigree. We’re not insinuating they can suddenly attract all the superstars of the world but if they want to tango with the best, they have to act like they are one of them in the first place.

Manchester United: Sergio Romero is simply better than Gianluigi Donnarumma

Clearly, David De Gea has been a stalwart for Manchester United since joining the club in 2011, winning four Player of the Year Awards in his eight years. Not bad going, right? So, losing De Gea would be a near catastrophe as Manchester United already have a weak defence and, with the Spanish goalkeeper’s long-term future in doubt (Sky Sports), it would further weaken the Old Trafford club.

After setting the world alight at the mere age of 16, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s progress has stalled at AC Milan. However, with David De Gea’s contract talks stalling and a transfer looking likely this summer, Donnarumma is being linked with a move to Old Trafford, according to Corriere Della Sera via Football Italia.

Frankly, a move for the young Italian would a terrible move for the Red Devils, as Donnarumma actually proves to be weak and quite error-prone. Indeed, as big a name as he might be, he would prove an awful signing and would provide an already terrible defence with no confidence. Furthermore, after their harrowing failure’s in the transfer market in recent seasons, the club will be keen to avoid another disastrous signing.

With United struggling in multiple positions all over the pitch, the club would be stupid to spend a possible near world-record fee on Donnarumma. Undoubtedly, centre-back and centre-forward are all positions the Premier League giants require reinforcement, and whilst the club is awash with money, wasting most of their transfer budget on an error-prone goalkeeper would prove poor business.

Number two Sergio Romero has proved more often than not that he is capable to make the step-up and become number 1 goalkeeper. The Argentine international has put in solid performances in many games this season, with notable performances away to Arsenal and Chelsea in the FA Cup where Manchester United went through. At 32-years-old and already on the books at Old Trafford, Romero would represent better value than Donnarumma.

Save some money, Ed Woodward. Not everything needs millions thrown at it to fix problems, there are smarter solutions already lurking within the Theatre of Dreams.

It remains to be seen if De Gea remains at Manchester United next season. However, signing Donnarumma for the high fee he would demand would prove to be an abysmal piece of business for the club.

Can anyone seriously replace De Gea, should he go? If not, do you agree that Romero is one of the better options? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Manchester United: Andre Onana can be next Old Trafford hero if De Gea leaves

Manchester United might find themselves having to look for a David De Gea (linked with PSG by the Express) replacement this summer, but they may have already found him in Ajax’s Andre Onana.

The 23-year-old was sold by Barcelona in 2015 for £135,000 (as per Transfermarkt), but this season he’s shone at Ajax. There’s no way his team would have been so impressive without him and it seems like United know that too, according to the Daily Record.

Indeed, such a low transfer fee speaks to what a gem he is and, while he’s obviously worth far more than that now, it’s hard to imagine the stopper attracting the sort of fee the likes of Matias De Ligt and Frenkie De Jong will command.

The aforementioned report believes United have made attempts to sign the Cameroon international, but Ajax have rejected their offer so far. That’d be a harsh blow for the club, but they could up their bid to secure the man who could be the next hero at Old Trafford.

De Gea has achieved almost god-like status during these tough times since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. In the future, Onana could reach the same heights but by bringing United back to the forefront of English football, a platform they are struggling to get back to. In fact, at this point, anyone who helps the Red Devils recover would be a hero for years.

He’s looked very promising in the Champions League this season, proving he can cope with the pressure of playing on the big stage. He was particularly impressive against Spurs in the semi-final, making some outstanding saves, despite the dramatic loss.

Trained at two of Europe’s most historic clubs, the African certainly has the kind of footballing pedigree to fit in at the Theatre of Dreams.

United need a clean sheet in more ways than one. A fresh start is needed for players right across the pitch, whether that be through transfers or a change in attitude. Bringing in Onana as a De Gea replacement would give United a new hero to get behind.
