Man Utd fans react to Chris Smalling scoring on loan for AS Roma

When Harry Maguire made his big-money arrival from Leicester earlier in the summer, there were bound to be casualties in the centre-back department at Manchester United.

The Red Devils had a plethora of players who could play in central defence, and in the end, it was Chris Smalling who had to make way. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even remarked that it was in the England international’s best interests to leave Old Trafford in search of first-team football.

He said: “At the moment we have six fit centre-backs and I couldn’t promise Chris regular football and he’s on the plane over now.”

The 29-year-old joined AS Roma on a season-long loan, and has appeared to revitalise his career over in Italy. He has averaged an impressive 1.5 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game in Serie A, and on Wednesday night, the Englishman got on the score-sheet for Roma as they clinched a fine 4-0 victory against Udinese.

West Brom’s Ahmed Hegazi could make return from injury on Monday

West Brom are heading into the international break in the perfect position.

The west Midlands club sit top of the Championship on goal difference after 11 matches – with the team behind them being Nottingham Forest, who they defeated on the opening day.

Slaven Bilic’s men responded well to losing their unbeaten streak by defeating Cardiff City 4-2 just a matter of days later over the weekend.

Now the next week or so gives the Croatian time to regroup ahead of what usually can be a tough festive period, but for some, it could actually bring some valuable game time.

None more so than with Ahmed Hegazi, who is expected to make his long-awaited return from injury on Monday when Egypt host Botswana in a friendly.

The 28-year-old has missed the start of the Baggies’ campaign after it was decided he needed surgery on a long-term ankle injury, which he had been playing on for quite some time.

Hegazi featured for the U23s two weeks ago in their victory over Newcastle United, but this would mark the first competitive fixture since the operation.

Bilic has said the defender is “in good shape” ahead of his return.

Albion have managed to keep just one clean sheet all season which came against ten-man Queens Park Rangers, the last win of their nine-game unbeaten run.

They have struggled defensively throughout the season so far, conceding 13 goals, meaning eight teams have let in fewer, per WhoScored.

Summer signing Semi Ajayi has looked like a fantastic acquisition considering he cost just £1.3m, but on the other hand, Kyle Bartley has been somewhat inconsistent.

Therefore, the Egyptian’s return could be coming at just the right time, considering Bilic’s side will need to be tighter at the back as the season goes on if they genuinely have ambitions of regaining their place in the promised land of the Premier League.

Last season he was an influential member of the squad, playing in 40 Championship matches on their way to the playoffs.

During that time, Hegazi won 4.1 aerial duels per game on average on top of 6.1 clearances and 4.6 long balls per game too.

If he were to record similar exploits this campaign, it would currently put him second for aerial duels won and first for clearances, which suggests he may well be a better option at centre-back.

His ability to pass from the back would also suit Bilic’s style of play too.

Keep an eye on Monday, Hegazi may well be back in the blue and white stripes sooner rather than later.

Tottenham fans react to transfer link with Real Madrid star Isco

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted on Twitter following a report by El Desmarque saying that the north London outfit could be interested in signing Isco.

El Desmarque say that Spurs may become the favourites to get the Spain international if Real Madrid buy Christian Eriksen, who is out of contract at the end of the season and reportedly waiting on a proposal from the La Liga giants as per Marca, from them.

Isco has shown his class for the Spanish outfit during his time at the Bernabeu, but injury issues have hampered him in more recent seasons, and he appears to have fallen down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane this term, playing just 104 minutes of La Liga football from the three fixtures he has been available for.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham do end up making their move, and their supporters have certainly reacted to the latest link and had plenty to say.

While one individual described him as being “twice the player Eriksen is”, another said “Isco is a better Dybala”, but not everyone is impressed with one fan labelling him “overrated”.

West Ham’s Declan Rice pulls a hilarious prank on teammate Jack Wilshere

[ad_pod ]King Arthur…but with a twist. There’s a reason we used to huddle around the television screen all those years ago to watch You’ve Been Framed, and it’s a simple one: other people’s misfortune is far more entertaining and funny than our own.And while that makes us sound a little psychotic, just take a second to think about the last time you saw someone tripping over in the street on their way to work. We bet you laughed.Watch West Ham United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

That said, have you ever stuck your friend’s shoes to the ground so firmly that they can’t pick them up without destroying the sole? No, neither have we. That would be both cruel and expensive, and we have our limits.

Fortunately for our viewing pleasure however, West Ham United’s Declan Rice has a bottomless pit of cash, no moral boundaries and a number of unsuspecting victims at his mercy.

The midfielder posted the video to his Instagram story (via Amazon Prime Video Sport), and the results were quite hilarious…

Man Utd slammed as arrogant by Netherlands legend Marco van Basten

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

As quoted by The Daily Mirror, Marco van Basten has slammed Manchester United’s players for acting like “spoilt boys”.

What did he say?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have endured an incredibly difficult start to the current campaign. After brushing aside rivals Chelsea 4-0 in their opening Premier League game, the Red Devils have stuttered and spluttered in recent weeks.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

And now, Van Basten has launched a stunning attack on United’s issues, and questioned their attitude. The Dutchman said: “What have United done so far? They beat Astana 1-0! They are 10th in the English Premier League and they are playing a kind of football which you really don’t want to write home about. If I were them, I would travel around with a lot less acting. They just look down on games in the Europa League and it is very regrettable.

“These United players are very well-paid professionals. So are they saying they should not be playing on an artificial pitch (against AZ Alkmaar)? Please, get lost. Stop talking about these spoilt boys. These are players who are paid an awful lot of money and supposed to be so professional. They shouldn’t be moaning about an artificial pitch. If you allow them to moan, you are just creating a load of whingers.”

Humility

As Van Basten alludes to, United’s players simply need to remind themselves that they’re not the bees knees. Their period of dominance is well and truly over, and it’s up to them to work their way back to the top. Their lacklustre performances this season have under-lined a worrying sense of entitlement, that they can simply turn up for matches and they’ll automatically walk away with the three points.

Solskjaer must take immediate action in rectifying his squad’s attitude, and the upcoming international break could not have come at a better time for the Red Devils. It’s a chance to take stock, and get back to basics once more.

Quick read: Jack Rodwell must be dropped for Birmingham clash

[ad_pod ]

Jack Rodwell has started each of Blackburn Rovers’ last seven Championship games. However, last time out against Middlesbrough, after a truly miserable first half display, the 27-year-old was hauled off at half time by Tony Mowbray.

Should Darragh Lenihan be back to fitness in time to face Birmingham City at St Andrew’s Stadium on Saturday, then he must come into the starting XI in Rodwell’s place.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

Rodwell looked against Boro like a player who needs some time out of the firing line. Given that Rovers have lost their last four consecutive league games, Mowbray has to change something in order to inspire his team to get back to their best.

Swapping out Rodwell would likely make Rovers a more solid unit at the back, and being dropped should also encourage the 3-cap former England international to concentrate on rediscovering his best form.

After last week’s woeful first half performance at Ewood Park, Mowbray needs something different, and taking Rodwell out of the team would be a positive alteration to make.

Real Madrid: Fans react to PSG’s Mbappe and Neymar blow

Real Madrid fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight that Paris Saint-Germain superstars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are set to miss the Champions League fixture between the two on Wednesday.

As reported by Marca, Mbappe will miss the clash due to a muscle injury picked up against Toulouse, whilst Neymar carries his three-game ban from last year’s campaign when he picked up a suspension after the Round of 16 knockout to Manchester United because of his comments about the refereeing.

Indeed, Los Blancos fans are rightfully so ecstatic that the two are set to miss out, as Neymar bagged 20 goals in 23 appearances last season, whilst Mbappe netted 37 times in 37 games.

The Brazilian is also no stranger to a goal against Madrid, scoring three goals in El Clasico’s in his Barcelona days, and recently, the 27-year-old scored a stunning injury-time winner against Strasbourg.

Elsewhere, fans have their own issues to deal with, as Sergio Ramos is suspended, whilst Luka Modric and Isco are both expected miss out through injury (as per Transfermarkt).

However, fans are at least buzzing to see the PSG stars absent, and here’s what they had to say…

West Ham: O’Rourke drops Trossard claim

West Ham United have made an approach in a bid to bring Leandro Trossard to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Pete O’Rourke, with the journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that West Ham have made an enquiry with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding a deal to sign the 27-year-old forward, with David Moyes desperate to bring in attacking reinforcements prior to Monday’s transfer deadline.

In his tweet, O’Rourke said: “Understand West Ham have made a shock enquiry for Brighton attacker Leandro Trossard.”

Fans will finally be pleased

While it is true that Trossard is naturally a winger, the Belgium international’s impressive positional versatility – being able to operate on either flank, in attacking midfield or at centre-forward – is undoubtedly a major reason for West Ham’s interest in the attacker.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-west-ham-news” title=”Check out the latest West Ham News”]

Furthermore, the £15.3m-rated forward is also proven in the Premier League, something that the 58-year-old Hammers manager typically prefers his signings to be – in order to reduce the amount of time it takes for a player to settle into the club.

However, not only does Trossard possess top-flight experience, the winger demonstrated over his 35 league outings last season that he has the ability to thrive in the division, scoring five goals, registering five assists and creating six big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.7 shots and making 1.5 key passes per game.

These returns saw the £35k-per-week Belgian earn a highly impressive seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Graham Potter’s fifth-best performer in the Premier League last time out.

As such, while the 27-year-old is not an out and out centre-forward, considering his impressive returns in the final third, his versatility in attacking roles and his experience in the division, the Brighton star would very much appear to make an excellent addition to Moyes’ attacking arsenal at the London Stadium – with fans undoubtedly being delighted to hear that the 58-year-old is finally addressing a problem position in his squad.

Spurs: Conte plotting Kamara bid

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Boubacar Kamara to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Goal, who claim that all of Tottenham, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Southampton are keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Olympique de Marseille central midfielder, who is set to leave the Orange Velodrome on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract with the Ligue 1 side this summer.

However, the report goes on to state that it is Atletico Madrid who are currently in pole position for the 22-year-old’s signature, with the France U21 international believed to be keen on the challenge of LaLiga and working with Diego Simeone.

Although, Goal also suggest that, with Antonio Conte – as well as the other interested parties from England – being able to offer the youngster a much bigger salary than the Spanish side, Kamara could yet decide on a move to the Premier League ahead of a switch to Spain.

Conte can axe Winks with Kamara

Considering the sheer amount of potential Kamara quite clearly possesses, in addition to Harry Winks having regressed greatly over the last year, it is easy to see why Tottenham would be interested in a move for the Marseille starlet this summer.

Indeed, over his 25 Ligue 1 appearances this season, the £22.5m-rated midfielder has been in breathtaking form for Jorge Sampaoli’s side, scoring one goal and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 0.8 key passes, 1.2 interceptions, two tackles, 59.1 passes and winning 5.6 duels per game.

These returns have seen the £46k-per-week dynamo who Rolando dubbed a “phenomenon” average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.09, ranking him as the Phocaeans’ second-best performer in the top flight of French football.

Furthermore, FBref rank the 22-year-old in the top 5% of midfielders in Europe’s big five leagues for passes attempted per 90, in addition to the top 6% for passes completed, the top 28% for progressive passes, the top 26% for progressive carries, the top 33% for tackles and the top 35% for interceptions over the last 365 days.

As such, with the £91k-per-week Harry Winks – who Dan Kilpatrick dubbed “out of form” earlier this season – looking as if he does not have a future at Spurs under Conte, having been offered to Leeds United in the January transfer window, it would appear wise for the 52-year-old to finally axe the England international on a permanent basis this summer, before reinvesting the money saved from his hefty weekly wage into a move for the much more exciting Kamara.

WBA loanee has no recall option

West Bromwich Albion have learned the latest regarding the future of on-loan striker Jordan Hugill as they look to put together a promotion charge in the second half of the Championship campaign.

What’s the latest?

West Brom will maintain the services of Norwich City loanee Jordan Hugill for the remainder of the season after Canaries manager Dean Smith revealed that there is no recall option in the 29-year-old’s contract at The Hawthorns.

Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, Smith said: “I don’t believe there is a recall option. I’ve spoken to Andy [Hughes], who’s our loans’ manager who keeps in touch with all the loan players. I’m going to be speaking to Jordan over the next 24 hours to see how he is finding it there.

“I don’t believe there’s a release clause but I’ll have a chat and see how he is.”

The Englishman was benched for the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Brighton and then left out of the matchday squad entirely on Saturday as Albion were beaten 1-0 late on at QPR.

After the defeat in West London, Baggies boss Valerien Ismael stated: “Yes it was my decision,” when asked post-match about Hugill’s absence. “I spoke to him about the situation, he came to me. I think now for him it’s a new situation. We spoke openly about the situation.”

However, finding a new situation may not be as straightforward as hoped with the complications regarding Hugill’s recall possibilities.

Ismael will be furious

Naturally, both parties will want the best for Hugill with there still four-and-a-half months of the season to be played. However, it does appear that the 29-year-old’s spell in the West Midlands is up.

The Norwich striker has scored just once in 20 appearances during his loan spell with Ismael’s side and has recently fallen further down the pecking order with the West Brom manager reuniting with former Barnsley loanee Daryl Dike.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals in 22 appearances for the South Yorkshire side last term as they reached the Championship play-off semi-final. However, a permanent move didn’t materialise and the American returned to his parent club MLS outfit Orlando City.

Now, the striker has finally made a permanent move to the Championship, following Ismael from Oakwell to The Hawthorns and signing a four-and-a-half deal with the West Midlands club.

If Hugill is no longer in Ismael’s plans, then West Brom and Norwich City will have to find a solution with the future of the Englishman in their best interest. Ideally, Norwich will recall the striker and send him on loan elsewhere, however, solving the predicament doesn’t appear to be that straightforward.

As a result, Albion are left with a player who clearly adds nothing to their side; an eventuality that won’t suit them at all in the back end of the campaign. Ismael will rightfully be frustrated as a result.
