Recém-chegado e com sotaque espanhol carregado, o meia Victor Cedrón foi apresentado pelo Figueirense nesta sexta-feira. Vestindo a camisa 15, o peruano já tem metas traçadas no Brasil e sonha em ir à Copa do Mundo. Para voltar a ser convocado, o jogador entende que precisa de boas atuações, que chamem a atenção do técnico Ricardo Gareca.

– Importante para mim como jogador, creio que as expectativas são grandes para estar na seleção e render ao máximo. Acredito que estar no exterior vai facilitar eu estar na seleção e ir na Copa do Mundo – afirmou.

Familiarizado com alguns atletas que atuam no Brasil, Cedrón é amigo de Cueva, que defende o São Paulo e falou sobre o trabalho realizado por Guerrero no Flamengo, enaltecendo a visibilidade que o jogador ganhou atuando na equipe rubro-negra.

– É um exemplo para todos no Peru e eu como jogador vou olhar sempre da melhor maneira. Sempre que jogo junto ou o encontro fico feliz e é um exemplo.

Para facilitar a comunicação, a comissão técnica do Figueirense vem conversando com o jogador em espanhol – principalmente com Milton Cruz, que domina o idioma. O técnico aguarda a regularização do atleta para que possa utilizá-lo da melhor forma. Caso a situação do meia seja normalizada ainda nesta sexta-feira, ele já poderá aparecer na lista de relacionados para o próximo compromisso do Figueira.

Confiante, Cedrón mostra vontade de jogar e afirma que chegou para poder ser peça fundamental na criação de jogadas pelo meio.

– Eu espero dar o melhor de mim, estou muito feliz e bem em todos os sentidos para poder ajudar o Figueirense. Sou um meia, gosto de chegar à área, fazer gols e dar passes para gol, é importante como jogador tentar ser protagonista na partida – completou.

Enquanto isso, o Alvinegro volta suas atenções para a nona rodada do Campeonato Catarinense. Neste domingo, a equipe recebe o Concórida às 17h, no estádio Orlando Scarpelli.

Leicestershire seamer Andy Harris has announced his retirement from first-class cricket after 18 years in the game.Harris, 37, took 451 first-class wickets in a career which included an England A tour of Australia in 1996-97 and was Leicestershire’s leading Championship wicket-taker last season.He began his career with Derbyshire in 1993 and moved to Nottinghamshire in 2000 for nine seasons, where his 49 wickets helped them to the Championship title in 2005. A hard working and popular seamer, Harris had the ignominy of being just the third player to be ‘timed out’ in first-class cricket, against Durham University, in 2003.Last season Harris became the last man to dismiss Michael Vaughan before the former England captain announced his retirement from the game. Though he started this season promisingly, taking seven wickets in Leicestershire’s first two successful Championship games of the season -against Northants and Derbyshire – he then found his opportunities limited with Matthew Hoggard, Nathan Buck and Nadeem Malik all performing well.After almost two decades in the game, Harris has looked back on his career with fond memories. “It is with great sadness that I have decided to retire from first-class cricket at the end of the 2010 season with Leicestershire.”I have been fortunate enough to have played for 18 seasons during which time I have played with and against some very special players and some of the finest cricketers to have ever graced our beautiful game. Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, when asked if the Tyneside outfit will sign Ekitike in the summer, Jones shared that the Toon Army should be ‘optimistic’ that they will sign a ‘big’ striker as well as him:

“But I think they should also be optimistic that this won’t be the only signing they make. I think they’ll really look at that frontline. I think somebody will be moved on. And I think another gap will open up for a big man to come in.”

The Verdict: Exciting

The fact that the Magpies could sign two new strikers, and one of them being the highly-rated Ekitike, is surely exciting.

Callum Wilson has been suffering from constant injury problems throughout the season, while Chris Wood has only managed to score two goals since arriving from Burnley in January.

Thus, they could do with some more firepower up top to help really kickstart the long-term project.

Nonetheless, they should have the budget to do it, given that they are backed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Daryl Dike could be a key player for West Bromwich Albion next season and he could save Steve Bruce from having to spend millions on a new striker.

He has only made two appearances since joining the Baggies from American side Orlando City in January and is currently out with a hamstring injury. As reported by Birmingham Live, Bruce wants Dike to be left out of the USA’s international squad this summer and focus on his recovery ahead of pre-season.

The 21-year old has appeared eight times for the Stars and Stripes, scoring three goals, and they have four fixtures this summer just a couple of weeks before West Brom are due to begin their pre-season campaign.

When he eventually returns from injury he will be like a new signing for Bruce and can play a key part in the club’s push for promotion next season.

He’s highly rated and has been described as a “monster” by journalist Jason Davis. He is no stranger to playing Championship football having spent the second half of last season on loan at Barnsley.

During his time with the Yorkshire club he scored nine goals in 19 appearances helping them reach the play-offs, before returning stateside to help Orlando do the same in the MLS.

This form caught the eye of West Brom who signed him for £7.7m, and if he can replicate it next season then they will have a great player on their hands.

He is currently rated at £9m, and when you compare the form he showed at Barnsley to West Brom strikers Karlan Grant and Andy Carroll this season, he comes out on top.

Dike has a higher number of goals per 90 minutes at 0.63 compared to 0.42 and 0.28 for Grant and Carroll. He also has the highest shots on target percentage at 43%.

It’s unlikely that he would come in to replace Grant given how good he’s been, but they could form a great partnership and their goals will be key if the Baggies want to make to return to the Premier League.

Making Dike a key part of his plans will free up room and money for Bruce to improve other areas of his squad so surely it’s a no brainer.

The Supreme Court of India has reserved its judgement on the petition filed by former BCCI president AC Muthiah against the board’s constitutional amendment that permitted then treasurer N Srinivasan to bid for the Chennai Super Kings in 2008. Srinivasan, now the BCCI secretary, is the vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements, the franchise owners.The two-person bench comprising Justice JM Panchal and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra finished hearing arguments today on the validity of the amendment that excluded Twenty20 cricket from the board’s conflict of interest clause.Muthiah’s lawyer Abhishek Singhvi laid out the sequence of events from the creation of the IPL in 2007 to the amendment in September 2008, claiming it was done solely to benefit Srinivasan as without it he would have been unable to bid for an IPL franchise.Srinivasan’s lawyer Rohinton Nariman argued that Muthiah had brought the petition only because he had lost to Srinivasan in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association elections. The court responded by asking Nariman what should carry more weight with the bench – the intention of the petitioner or the cause of the petitioner?Before the amendment, clause 6.2.4 of the Regulations for Players, Team officials, Umpires and Administrators, read: “No administrator shall have, directly or indirectly, any commercial interest in the matches and events conducted by the board.”The amendment excluded Twenty20 cricket from the purview of the clause, which now reads: “No administrator shall have directly or indirectly any commercial interest in any of the events of the BCCI, excluding IPL, Champions League and Twenty20.”Muthiah appealed to the Supreme Court in April after the Madras High Court refused to entertain his petition challenging the BCCI’s decision to amend its constitution, saying there was “absolutely no merit to interfere”. Muthiah had originally written to the BCCI to say that allowing India Cements to buy Chennai created a conflict of interest. When the board failed to respond to his complaint, Muthiah took his fight to the courts, claiming that the amendment was “illegal and opposed to public policy.”
