Rangers linked with Jeando Fuchs move

New Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has got his reign at Ibrox off to a great start by winning all four games he’s taken charge of, with the latest being their recent 3-0 win over Dundee FC in the SPFL.

Now, with the January transfer window on the horizon, it seems as though the club could have identified who Van Bronckhorst’s first signing as Rangers boss could be.

What’s the news?

In a recent interview with Foot Mercato, Dundee United midfielder Jeando Fuchs revealed that Rangers are one of the clubs that have contacted him and his agent over a potential transfer.

Since joining United back in October last year from Spanish side Alaves, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £720k according to Transfermarkt, has made 45 appearances for the club across all competitions, chipping in with just one assist in the process.

This season has seen Fuchs start 13 of the 15 SPFL games he’s appeared in, showing how important he is for the side.

In those league games, Fuchs has shown what a defensive unit he has been for United by racking up an average of two interceptions per game and 2.3 tackles per game.

As well as his impressive defensive output from midfield this season, Fuchs’ overall league performances have earned him a season rating of 6.72/10, making him the fifth-highest rated United player to have made more than four appearances this season according to WhoScored.

Despite sitting at the top of the league table at the moment, Rangers have conceded four more goals than Celtic have and only one fewer than Hearts in third place, which could make a potential transfer swoop for Fuchs a smart move for the club and just what Van Bronckhorst needs to secure the title at Ibrox this season.

Looking ahead to the January transfer window, Rangers’ sporting director Ross Wilson should definitely consider making a move for Fuchs, who has “unbelievable energy” according to Micky Mellon, to see if he can help push the team to the title and end Van Bronckhorst’s first season at Rangers on a high.

Also, with two of Rangers’ current midfield options – Scott Arfield and Steven Davies – being well into their thirties, Fuchs could be a suitable long-term replacement for the duo given his fairly young age. With all of the aforementioned positives in mind, this would surely be a dream deal for the club’s new manager.

Weary Hauritz finds energy to lift

There was no obvious Champions League Twenty20 hangover for Nathan Hauritz

Tired tale: Nathan Hauritz overcame a frantic preparation to perform strongly in Australia’s opening ODI victory over India•AFP

There was no obvious Champions League Twenty20 hangover for Nathan Hauritz, who raced into Australia’s squad and settled in immediately as the visitors held on for a four-run victory in the first ODI. Hauritz had been a key man in New South Wales’ US$2.5m success on Friday and he, Brett Lee and Doug Bollinger made it to the national team’s hotel only 12 hours before the toss in Vadodara. While the timing upset Ricky Ponting, Hauritz stood up and allowed only 11 runs from his first five overs, stifling India’s chase of Australia’s 8 for 292. He finished with 1 for 34 off nine as the hosts were restricted despite a late burst from Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar. It ended a huge weekend that bolstered the domestic players’ pockets and gave Australia an early edge in the seven-game series.”It was pretty tough,” Hauritz told AAP. “We didn’t get out of the change room until 1am that morning [after the final], flew out at midday and got in at 8.30 the night before the game. Becoming the inaugural champions you still have to celebrate with your team-mates, but in the back of your mind you still take it a bit easy because you’ve got to pull up and play in [less than] 48 hours.”The body is still tired but at the end of the day you’re playing for your country and you virtually don’t want to miss a game. I try to never take a game for granted.”Hauritz remained in good shape but Lee was troubled by a sore elbow and delivered only six overs. Lee was not used towards the end of the innings and Australia were also without James Hopes, who was forced off after 12 deliveries with a hamstring injury. Hopes has had scans and is unlikely to be considered for Wednesday’s match in Nagpur while Lee will continue to be monitored.Hauritz is not a concern and will have to take on a big role in this series, with Jon Holland, the rookie left-arm spinner, the only other specialist slow bowler in the squad. After being the first-choice throughout the year, Hauritz is happy to be operating on wickets offering more turn.”I don’t know if the way I bowl has really ever changed too much,” he said. “Maybe people are perceiving it [to be attacking] a little bit more – I still try and bowl the same way every time. Bowling on a few more turning wickets people can actually see the ball spin, so I’m not the person that just bowls straight-breaks any more.”Australia’s slow-bowling situation is being closely monitored – five have been used in Tests since Stuart MacGill’s retirement last year – and Cricket Australia commissioned a report that showed fewer overs were being delivered by spinners in the Sheffield Shield. “It is good to see them paying a little more attention to the spin-bowling aspect, but I think sometimes too it’s taken a little bit of out context,” Hauritz said. “There’s a lot of good spinners around – we’ve got myself, young Jon Holland on this tour, Jason Krejza, Bryce McGain back home – so we’re all still there.”It’s just a matter of whenever the spinners get the opportunity they just have to do what they do. I think, over time, the Australian public will learn to adapt to us.”

West Ham fans will love Fornals’ big hint

West Ham United fans will love the latest hint from Pablo Fornals about his long-term future at the club…

What’s the word?

The Spaniard is a bit of a fan-favourite around the London Stadium as he has emerged as a crucial player for the Irons in recent times, and his performances have even earned him a place back in the Spain squad, as a result.

Fornals was signed in a £24m deal from Villarreal by former manager Manuel Pellegrini back in June 2019 but it’s under the Scotsman where his best displays have come, regularly featuring for the side.

80 of his now 100 appearances have come under Moyes.

However, until recently, he had started all of their first 14 league games this campaign but he has found himself on the bench in his last two outings but Hammers fans should have no fears after he dropped a five-word update to social media this week.

The club’s official Twitter account recently celebrated his 100th appearance by saying “Congratulations on 100 West Ham United appearances, @pablofornals!, to which he responded:

“Hope many more to enjoy.”

Here to stay?

It would be natural, in this day and age, to have some doubts and worries about the £18m-rated playmaker with the January transfer window around the corner, so it will certainly be encouraging to much of the Hammers’ faithful that he’s keen to remain in the claret and blue going forward.

After all, you could forgive him if he wanted to return to his home county, especially given that the manager who signed him departed very quickly and then the country was hit by a pandemic, something that still lingers to this day.

However, back in September, the 25-year-old dynamo expressed his love for the club in an interview with the Guardian.

When asked if he knew much about the Irons before signing, he said: “If I’m honest, no. I knew of them, I’d seen them play, but I wasn’t a fan the way I am now.” Now he says he has “completely” fallen in love with them: “The songs, this sign when they see you in the street, the bubbles: it’s something you don’t experience anywhere else.”

It’s no wonder he has emerged as a popular player amongst supporters and one that has been hugely influential to Moyes.

After five goals and four assists in the Premier League last term, Fornals now ranks as West Ham’s fifth-best performer, as per WhoScored ratings, which is an improvement on 20/21.

Only Michail Antonio (six) has scored more goals this season than the Spaniard (four), whilst he is also second for key passes per game (1.4) and isn’t far behind for tackles (1.6 per game) either, via WhoScored, which goes to show he’s a bustling and industrious presence in the engine room.

“He’s done unbelievable,” claimed Irons legend Trevor Sinclair to talkSPORT.

Even though he has not been linked with an exit, fans at the club will be absolutely buzzing to see such comments from the popular star as he certainly remains committed to playing for the Hammers for the foreseeable future.

Devido a shows, o São Paulo precisou se afastar do Morumbi e mandar jogos no Pacaembu. A troca deixou o torcedor receoso.

Trott and Prior seal uplifting win

An injury-ravaged England side overcame a stiff target of 280 to beat South Africa A by four wickets and with 11 balls to spare

The Bulletin by Sahil Dutta17-Nov-2009
ScorecardEngland were taken to the wire in a tense victory over South Africa A in their warm-up match at Potchefstroom. In a fluctuating contest, fifties from Andrew Strauss, Jonathan Trott and Matt Prior ensured adepleted England took the spoils against a strong South African opposition.Strauss, returning after sitting out the Twenty20 series, ledEngland’s chase, dominating a 68-run opening stand with Joe Denly.Denly is short of runs after failing in the Twenty20 series anddespite being dropped on 12 by Morne Morkel, could only manage 24 today. His place at the top of the order could be under threat from Trott, who has done the job for Warwickshire. In his short international career Trott has demonstrated a calmnessrarely seen in England’s one-day cricket. He shared productivepartnerships, first with Strauss and then Matt Prior, as his 89-ball 78gave England a great chance. However, when Trott fell to Morkel in 44th over, England werestill 49 runs short and it took a decisive 46-run stand betweenPrior and Luke Wright to secure the result. The day didn’t start well for the tourists as Alastair Cook joined thelengthening injury list with a bad back. It left England short of fivesenior players and South Africa A captain Hashim Amla, keen totest England’s inexperienced bowlers, batted first after winning thetoss.Having lost their lengths, lines and heads in the second Twenty20, England needed to demonstrate better resolve today. If theyneeded assistance, Ottis Gibson, England’s bowling coach was on fieldas 12th man at one point. But he was powerless as Sajid Mahmood, TimBresnan and Adil Rashid proved expensive again. In windy conditions reminiscent of Chester-le-Street, Amla and AndrewPuttick put on 77 in 14.4 overs as Graham Onions and Bresnan were frequently punished for over-pitching. Ittook Wright to finally make the breakthrough when he had Amlabrilliantly caught by Strauss at mid-wicket for 37. Seven overs later,Wright was again at the centre of the next dismissal when his sharpthrow beat Rilee Rossouw’s dive.Puttick, who played a single one-dayinternational for South Africa in 2005, passed his fifty from 57 ballsbefore mis-timing a slog off Denly when he had made 62. It was aneedless dismissal that characterised the innings. Every one of theSouth African A top five reached at least 24 but none could hammerhome their advantage.Herschelle Gibbs, pressing for an international recall, struggled forfluency and his dismissal sparked a good period for England in which theytook four wickets for 27 runs in 7.1 overs. Gibbs played on trying torun Wright to third man and Onions returned for an improved secondspell in which he claimed the impressive Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Dean Elgarin quick succession.Just as England looked to control the innings, Morkel joinedHeino Kuhn, the wicketkeeper who made his international debut inSunday’s Twenty20, to put on 40 runs in their 5.4 over stand. Morkelunveiled an extra string to his bow with an array of strokes throughthe off-side in a 22-ball 29.Kuhn batted smartly with the tail and pushed South Africa A to 279 for 9, but in the final analysis, it wasn’t quite enough.

No tickets were sold for the fourth ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens after the Cricket Association of Bengal decided to offer available seats to its members and affiliated clubs. The stadium is being renovated for the World Cup in 2011 and with four stands out of service, only half the seats were available for the match.”We are obliged to reserve seats for our members and clubs,” CAB official Biswarup Dey said. “Even all of them were not accommodated because there was just not enough space. So we decided not to sell tickets for the game.”The one-dayer was Kolkata’s first since February 2007, when former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, a rival of the current Sharad Pawar-Shashank Manohar faction, returned to power in the state. But Kolkata will host four World Cup matches.Virender Sehwag, India’s stand-in captain, said it was unusual not to play in front of a packed Eden Gardens. “But there will be a better, bigger stadium for the World Cup,” Sehwag said. “Still, 40,000 is more than what we get at many grounds around the world.”
