Fast bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and opener Imran Nazir have been recalled to Pakistan’s one-day international squad after two years. Naved and Nazir have become the third and fourth Pakistan players to make comebacks to the national team after cutting ties with the unofficial ICL. Nazir’s inclusion has come at the expense of Salman Butt, whose poor form has been a serious concern for the Pakistan management. However Butt, along with the rest of the squad, has been named in Pakistan’s 30-man probables for the Champions Trophy.Shoaib Akhtar was not picked in either squad because of uncertainty surrounding his match fitness, as Wasim Bari, the PCB director for human resources and administration, had earlier said.Handed a maiden international call-up for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka which starts at the end of this month is Umar Akmal – younger brother of wicketkeeper Kamran – who scored heavily on Pakistan A’s tour of Australia recently.While some national boards have set a ‘cooling period’ before players associated with the ICL are considered for selection, the PCB accepted players into official cricket immediately. “I’m back playing for my country and its a great feeling,” Naved told . “I got the call [on Tuesday] from the PCB and I was delighted to hear the good news”.Naved, 31, last played for Pakistan in the opening match of the 2007 World Cup against West Indies and was not only dropped for the subsequent matches but also omitted for the tours to Abu Dhabi and Scotland. O empate em 2 a 2 com a Ponte Preta marcou o 11º jogo de Dorival Junior no comando do São Paulo no Brasileirão. Esse número é significativo pois trata-se da mesma quantidade de partidas que Rogério Ceni dirigiu o time no campeonato. O aproveitamento dos dois treinadores é bem parecido, com vantagem para o atual comandante.

Embora pareça que Dorival defenda um retrospecto pior do que seu antecessor, os números dizem o contrário. Foram três vitórias, quatro empates e quatro derrotas, o que resulta em um aproveitamento de 39,4% dos pontos disputados.

No entanto, o que chama muito a atenção é o número de gols sofridos pelo São Paulo sob o comando de Dorival Junior. Em onze jogos, a equipe sofreu 21 gols, média de 1,91 por partida, ou seja, quase dois gols por duelo, exatamente o que o ocorreu contra a Ponte.

Com Rogério Ceni, o time sofreu 11 gols em 11 jogos, um por jogo, quase a metade do que tem sofrido atualmente. Naquele momento, a defesa passa por uma fase melhor do que atual, porém em situações bem distintas da competição.

O número de tentos marcados é maior com Dorival, foram 18 contra dez do último treinador, o que acaba sendo ofuscado pela enorme quantidade de gols sofridos.

Vale lembrar que entre a saída de Rogério e a chegada de Dorival, Pintado comandou o time em um jogo pelo Brasileirão, na derrota para o Santos por 3 a 2, na Vila Belmiro.

O número de pontos conquistados por Rogério e Dorival no Brasileirão são parecidos, porém com uma defesa tão fragilizada, superar as dificuldades parece estar sendo bem mais difícil para o atual treinador.

كشفت تقارير سعودية أسباب قبول إدارة نادي النصر السعودي برئاسة مسلي آل معمر، فكرة رحيل لاعب الوسط الأوزبكي الدولي جلال الدين ماشاريبوف لصفوف النادي الأهلي المصري.

ويرتبط النادي الأهلي بضم ماشاريبوف لمدة موسم واحد فقط على سبيل الإعارة مقابل 600 ألف دولار بجانب تواجد خيار الشراء بنهاية الموسم المقبل.

ووفقا لصحيفة “سبورت” السعودية فإن إدارة النصر كانت تخطط لرحيل الأرجنتيني بيتي مارتينيز وليس الأوزبكي جمال الدين ماشاريبوف في الصيف الحالي، لكن عدم وصول عروض للأول بسبب راتبه المرتفع مع العالمي، هو الأمر الذي دفعهم للترحيب بفكرة رحيل “ميسي آسيا” كما يلقب.

وكان للمدرب الفرنسي رودي جارسيا دورًا بارزًا في رحيل ماشاريبوف عن صفوف النصر، بعدما رحب بفكرة بيع اللاعب هذا الصيف، مؤكدًا أنه لم يعد بحاجة إليه من الجانب الفني، لا سيما عقب التعاقد مع عبد الرحمن غريب من صفوف أهلي جدة لتعزيز مركز الوسط الهجومي.

If the fans can see that the players are giving their all and leaving everything on the field in games then it could be easier to take adverse results when they come about, rather than if the fans feel as though some are not playing at 100%.

There is no hiding away from the difficult position Howe has inherited. Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League and are the only side in the division yet to win a game, with five points on the table after 11 matches. It will take sheer hard work and graft for them to grind out results and pull themselves to safety, which is why this claim from Hope will be music to the fans’ ears.

However, it is only worthwhile if it works in practice and Howe has under two weeks to ensure that he can set his team out in the best possible way to beat Brentford on the other side of the international break.

The gap between the Magpies and the rest of the division could only increase if they continue to go through games without picking up their first win, which is why it is great to see the ex-Bournemouth coach quickly instilling these particular set of values on the players so early into his reign.

Sri Lanka are likely to go in with a new opening combination for the first Test against New Zealand beginning on Tuesday in Galle. Having sat out the limited-overs leg of the recently concluded home series against Pakistan due to injuries, Tillakaratne Dilshan is likely to feature at the top of the order on his return.Dilshan, 32, had fractured his right index finger and underwent several stitches above his left eye on the second day of the third Test against Pakistan at the SSC. But following his 68 off 60 balls while opening for Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI against the New Zealanders in the tour game in Colombo, he is likely to replace Malinda Warnapura as Tharanga Paranavitana’s opening partner.”The selectors told me to have a knock here [in the tour match] as opener and I got a great opportunity to bat in the middle facing the new ball,” said Dilshan. “It was good practice for me I am now ready for the Test match.”The coach and [Kumar] Sanga[karra] discussed with me and they wanted me to come up the order as an opener to balance the side. I said if you want me to open I will do it. It’s a new position for me in Test cricket. It’s not easy like in the one-dayers, but I will try to deliver 100%. I am ready to accept the challenge.”It will be the first time Dilshan will be opening the innings during his 55-match Test career, during which he has scored 3166 runs at 41.11. The pressure will also be eased off as he would no longer be required to don the wicketkeeping gloves (as he did in the Test series against Pakistan) with Prasanna Jayawardene having recovered from a finger injury.Dilshan has continually strengthened his reputation as a limited-overs specialist, which has fetched him many accolades, the most recent being named Man of the Tournament at the World Twenty20 in England. However, he was keen to repeat the success in the longest format as well.”I am not worried that I am playing in a Test but play in my own positive way and try to score runs off every ball,” Dilshan said. “I am not going to change my gameplan because it is a Test. The Irons head to the Midlands to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday afternoon following the final international break of the year and they can expect to travel with vice-captain Declan Rice, who has shaken off illness.

That’s according to Irons insiders Claret and Hugh, who delivered a fresh update on the 22-year-old’s situation after he withdrew from England duty.

Rice was not involved in either of the Three Lions’ back-to-back wins over Albania and San Marino as Gareth Southgate’s squad qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

A source has told the website that he is now fit and ready to play this weekend in what has to be considered a huge boost to manager David Moyes and the squad.

There would have been some cause for concern as a Rice-less Hammers side would be a worrying prospect considering they have achieved so much with him leading the side in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, the east London outfit sit third in the standings after 11 matches, above the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs.

Rice has been a standout performer, averaging the highest WhoScored rating (7.46) of anyone in the squad. He leads the way for interceptions (1.9) and average number of passes (58.4) per game, proving that much of the Irons’ play runs through him and he’s a rock-solid option to protect the backline.

He isn’t too far behind for tackles either, managing 2.7 per game, which is only bettered by Ben Johnson (three), who has played in much fewer matches.

Earlier in the season, Moyes emphasised just how crucial the academy graduate is after he played a starring role in the win and clean sheet against former club, Everton.

“It would be hard to say just how good Declan Rice was today. For me, he was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch. He did the dirty bits in the game when he had to do so but had a great air of control on the ball and poise,” he told reporters, (via Sky Sports).

Moyes will, therefore, be absolutely delighted to have his talisman available for selection on Saturday. He will surely continue his run in the starting XI.

What’s the word?

The Yorkshire giants were linked to the former Granada boss in recent days with Super Deporte (via Sport Witness) claiming that director of football Victor Orta has already made a first approach to seal the 40-year-old as a potential replacement for Marcelo Bielsa at the end of the season.

However, the LeedsLive reporter delivered a fresh update to supporters in a recent Q&A, when asked about the links, he said:

“No, I don’t believe there is.

“From what I am told there is zero chance he will be Bielsa’s successor when the Argentine does eventually move on from Elland Road.”

Encouraging news?

Whilst this doesn’t completely rule out the Argentine’s departure, it is rather promising news, despite their disappointing form in 2021/22.

Bielsa is out of contract in the summer and is yet to agree to an extension, though he’s never signed anything this early on, ever since arriving at Elland Road in 2018.

The 66-year-old guided the Whites into the Premier League for the first time in 16 years and managed to secure a tenth place finish in their maiden campaign back in the big time.

Injuries have seriously curtailed their progress this term, with several key and influential stars missing a ton of games, including vice-captain Luke Ayling and leading talisman Patrick Bamford.

Any team would struggle without players of this quality and there is plenty of time left to salvage their season. United sit one place above the relegation zone but only 12 games have been completed.

Bielsa will, of course, leave one day but you can’t help but think he deserves a crack at keeping the Yorkshiremen in the top-flight.

Martinez, who has no experience outside of Spain, having held roles at Sevilla, Osasuna and Granada, would have been a massive risk, even more so as he would be trying to follow in the footsteps of the cult hero and fan favourite.

Therefore, much of the Elland Road faithful will surely be delighted by Cross’ claims this week.
