What’s the talk?

According to the Sheffield Star, Sunderland have been put off by Sheffield United’s loan fee demands for the 18-year-old striker.

The report claims that the Black Cats have held talks over a swoop for the forward, but they are baulking at the Championship’s side £1m loan fee that they want in exchange to send him out on loan.

Fans will be livid

Sunderland fans will be livid with this news as it seems to all but rule out a deal for Jebbison before the end of the window, unless Sheffield United decide to lower their demands.

A £1m loan fee for a player with four senior league appearances for his name is steep, as there is no solid evidence to suggest that he will be a star player in League One.

Transfermarkt value him at a little less, around £900k, for example.

That is not to say he does not have the potential to be, but Sunderland would surely want a degree of certainty about what they are getting if they are shelling out seven figures to have a player for less than a year.

Therefore, the club’s stance on this move is understandable. It has the possibility of being a waste of money, which may be why they are not interested in meeting United’s demands for the player.

This will not stop fans from being gutted that Jebbison may not be coming to the Stadium of Light, though, as he is a talented young player.

Ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards hailed Jebbison as the shining light in Sheffield United’s squad as they were relegated from the Premier League. He told Sky Sports (via the Examiner):

“I really like the look of him. He just gets in the right areas, and they needed that with all the negativity that’s gone on at the club.

“You want to bounce back straight away, and you want to go to the end of the season with positivity.

“They’re playing for pride, and he’s the shining light.”

He scored one goal in four Premier League appearances for Sheffield United at the backend of last season, winning 1.3 aerial battles and 1.5 tackles per game.

This is an impressive return for an 18-year-old striker and suggests that he could have the quality to make an impact in League One, which is why fans would be excited to see him come through the door.

However, you have to consider the financial element that comes along with it and – as it stands – the deal would be too much of a gamble for it to make sense for Kristjaan Speakman and Lee Johnson to pull the trigger.

So, the fans will be livid but it looks to be the correct decision on paper.

O primeiro tempo começou equilibrado, com o Vasco mais atrás e buscando aproveitar os contra-ataques. Paulo Vitor, Robinho, Andrey e Bruno Cosendey tiveram chances de marcar.

Precisando do triunfo, o time baiano quase abriu o placar logo aos dois do segundo tempo. Após cobrança de lateral, Ricardo salvou chance em cima da linha.

Depois de assustar algumas vezes, o Vasco conseguiu balançar a rede aos 30 minutos.Após cruzamento de Luan, a bola sobrou para Paulo Vitor marcar. Logo depois, aos 38, Andrey ampliou para os visitantes. 2 a 0 Vasco.

Chris Gayle has sent a letter of resignation to the West Indies board chief executive Donald Peters, according to reports in the Caribbean media. Celtic are looking to make it six wins in a row as they face St Mirren in the Premiership this weekend after beating AZ Alkmaar 2-0 earlier in the week.

Ange Postecoglou’s Hoops have won their last five matches in all competitions. They beat Jablonec 4-2 and 3-0, Hearts 3-2, Dundee 6-0 and AZ Alkmaar 2-0, scoring 18 goals in those five games.

The Australian will be hoping that his side can continue their eye-catching form to secure a second successive win in the league to pile the pressure on their arch-rivals Rangers.

On the Chalkboard

Despite beating AZ Alkmaar without conceding a goal, there was one negative to come out of the game, as unfortunately Liel Abada was unable to make the most of his opportunity to impress. Postecoglou brought him into the starting XI after missing the two games prior to the Europa League clash and the winger failed to justify his head coach’s decision.

The teenage winger was given the lowest FotMob score in the starting XI as he was handed a rating of 6.5/10. In 58 minutes on the pitch, he did not create a single chance for his teammates and lost four of his seven duels. This, along with his withdrawal before the hour mark, suggests that he had a poor outing.

Therefore, the youngster should be taken back out of the spotlight for this match against St Mirren. Postecoglou should give him a chance to work hard in training to ensure that he is 100% ready to take his next opportunity, rather than picking him this weekend and potentially causing him to try too hard in an attempt to make up for the Alkmaar showing.

Celtic’s manager should now unleash Odsonne Edouard on St Mirren after the Frenchman dropped out of the XI in midweek. He is a proven performer in the Premiership and he should return to the team, with Kyogo Furuhashi moved back into a wide position to support the 23-year-old.

Former Hoops forward Frank McGarvey commented on Edouard last year and claimed that he ‘magic in his feet’. He said: “I just love watching Edouard. He has that bit of magic in his feet, and he reminds me of Charlie Nicholas.

“You just know if he gets the ball just outside of the box the other team are in trouble. Edouard has that ability to produce something out of nothing because he has such quick feet.”

The £19k-per-week dynamo has used that magic to score 58 goals and provide 26 assists in 102 league matches for Celtic in his career. This illustrates the level of quality Postecoglou has to call upon and why he should reinstate Edouard into the starting XI following Abada’s frustrating display against AZ Alkmaar.

He made his debut for Accrington in 1963 as a 16-year-old and played regularly for them before and after his first-class career. He returned to play for them in a few games this summer at the age of 61.In the heyday of the league some of the biggest names in the game turned out, but the admission of overseas players into the first-class ranks and the spread of the paid professional to clubs across the country has made attracting big names all but impossible. That, allied to the financial problems facing many sides, caused Lloyd speak out.”In my opinion professionals are unsustainable in the league,” Lloyd told the Lancashire Telegraph. “It’s such a burden to continue to try and find the money and a number of clubs, financially, are on the edge.”Last summer, Lloyd highlighted the financial crisis threatening the future of his own club. “Even after the success we have had this year we are still in quite a parlous state,” he told the paper. “We have had an unbelievable season and the support has been fabulous but we are still not making money and we are having to work hard to get things right.”It’s pretty obvious that that the days of a crackerjack professional have gone because they are elsewhere and another unsatisfactory thing is that with so many professionals coming and going there are that many sub pros, which is another complication for clubs. I’m not saying knock it on the head straight away, but it might be worth having a moratorium for a season or two to see how it goes and starting a debate.”Perhaps it will be an incentive for the amateurs to do more.”
