Mike Vimpany15-Jul-2002South Wilts cricketers are mourning the death of Gordon Gay, their former Chairman and President, after a long illness.A founder member of the Salisbury club in 1948, Mr Gay, 70, played for South Wilts for over 30 years, ten of which were as captain.An elegant batsman and off-spin bowler, he later became chairman, a post he held for some 18 years.An impeccable, dapper man, hugely respected in many spheres of Salisbury city life, Mr Gay worked tirelessly for South Wilts and Wiltshire cricket when his playing career ended.He put countless man hours into the Bemerton club, helping transform the South Wilts ground into one of the best in the region.In 1997, he received the Southern League’s prestigious Groundsman of the Year award and, two years later, his voluntary work for the ECB was acknowledged by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, who presented him with the 1999 Torch Trophy award.More recently Mr Gay was presented with a Special Lifetime Achievement award for his outstanding service to sport in the Salisbury area.The funeral service was held at St John’s Church, Bemerton, immediately behind the South Wilts sports ground last Friday.Donations to the Salisbury Hospice can be made via Ian Newman, Funeral Directors, 55 Winchester Street, Salisbury.

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn will get the summer to work on becoming a more well-rounded No.6, according to Birmingham Live.

And a number of Villa supporters have been sharing their disappointment over the news on social media.

McGinn, who played at the European Championships for Scotland this summer, has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months.

However, Birmingham Live expect the 26-year-old, on £50,000-a-week at Villa Park, to feature alongside Marvelous Nakamba in a defensive midfield role against Watford on the opening day.

Douglas Luiz is away due to his involvement in the Olympics with Brazil and the report suggests a lot rests on McGinn being defensively-minded once again.

Smith mainly tinkered between a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 system last season, with McGinn playing in an attacking midfield role on just two occasions.

Birmingham Live claimed McGinn’s threatening attacking runs in behind opposition centre-backs could now be a thing of the past.

ستيرلينج يمتلك عقدًا مع مانشستر سيتي، ينتهي بعد عام في 30 يونيو 2023، والنادي السماوي لم يدخل في مفاوضات مع الجناح الإنجليزي من أجل التجديد.

وقالت الشبكة إن توتنهام في مفاوضات جادة مع صاحب الـ27 عامًا ووكيل أعماله للتعاقد معه.

أكد أحمد مرتضى منصور، عضو مجلس إدارة نادي الزمالك، أنه يتفاوض مع لاعبي الأهلي في كل الألعاب، مُشددًا على أنه وقع بالفعل مع أحد اللاعبين.

وقال أحمد مرتضى في تصريحات لبرنامج “اللعيب” عبر قناة “إم بي سي مصر”: “هذا احتراف، طالما انتهى عقد لاعب مع فريقه، من حقه التفاوض مع أي ناد طالما في التوقيت المسموح به، لأنني أفعل ذلك وأفاوض لاعبي الأهلي في كل الألعاب وهذا أمر طبيعي”.

وتابع: “أنا وقعت مع لاعب في الأهلي بلعبة ما، وتناقشنا بشأن توقيت إعلان الصفقة، وطلب مني أن ننتظر حتى تنتهي البطولة التي يشارك فيها فريقه حتى لا يؤثر الإعلان على زملائه، وأنا أحترم هذا الأمر فيه”.
