Aston Villa manager Dean Smith must finally land Paulo Gazzaniga after a major development regarding the goalkeeper’s future.

What’s the story?

Reports last September suggested that the Argentine was a target for Smith’s side as they looked to strengthen the goalkeeping department, but the Midlands club moved on from the 1.95m (6 foot 5) titan and signed Arsenal’s Emi Martinez instead.

Gazzaniga saw his time with Spurs come to an end earlier in the week after being released by the north London side, and when asked if he thinks the 29-year-old could go to Villa, football journalist Alan Nixon tweeted (via Birmingham Mail): “Would make a lot of sense. Villa want an experienced No.2.”

Perfect no.2 for Martinez

With recent confirmation that Tom Heaton has left the club, Villa could do with some new competition for Martinez in between the sticks for next season.

In Gazzaniga, they could find the perfect player to come in, with the Argentine having deputised for Hugo Lloris at Spurs numerous times and his former boss Jose Mourinho even hailing him as “magic hands” after a particularly impressive performance against Wolves last season.

Add that to his Argentine nationality, and he should even settle in well at Villa Park given that he already has a international compatriot in Martinez, and the duo will no doubt push each other to greater heights.

وتواصلنا في “btolat.com” مع أزولاو للحديث عن إنجاز بترو أتلتيكو في النسخة الحالية من دوري أبطال إفريقيا، وقال: “نشعر بسعادة غامرة بالتأهل إلى ربع النهائي بعد المباراة الأخيرة أمام ساجرادا”.

وتابع: “لكننا الآن نفكر في حسم المركز الأول في المجموعة الرابعة، لا نعرف بعد ما سيحدث في مباراة الزمالك، ولكننا نحترمهم كفريق رغم خروجهم ومستعدين لهم ونطمح للفوز عليهم في أنجولا”.

وعن تصدره جدول ترتيب الهدافين في البطولة، قال: “يسعدني أيضًا أن أكون قادرًا على مساعدة فريقي من خلال الأهداف التي سجلتها حتى الآن، لكن التركيز الأهم هو أن نذهب بعيدًا في دوري أبطال إفريقيا وتقديم مستوى رائع في كل المباريات التي نخوضها”.

وأتم: “لقد كان على اتصال بنا لمرافقتنا في البطولات والمسابقات وخاصًة خلال مسابقة كأس أمم إفريقيا التي أقيمت في مصر، إنه يعرف كرة القدم جيدًا وكان جيدًا معنا، لكنه لم يعمل معنا ولم يكن حتى محلل الفيديو لدينا”.

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, former Newcastle defender Steve Howey has urged Allan Saint-Maximin to remain at the club this summer with a two-word message – “just wait”.

Whilst the Frenchman is yet to show regular consistency or produce good numbers for the Magpies, his incredible pace and skill set make him an asset to most Premier League sides.

Saint-Maximin managed three goals and five assists in 25 league appearances, which is the same amount he racked up last season.

Six of those eight goal contributions came across a seven-game spell, including an equaliser at Old Trafford and a crucial goal and assist off the bench to help Newcastle to three season-changing points at Burnley, which boosted their survival hopes in April.

Saint-Maximin sent a warning to Newcastle earlier this month about his future, suggesting that the club are better than fighting against relegation, with Steve Bruce conceding bids are likely to arrive for him.

And whilst Howey understands his frustrations, he told the speedy attacker to wait until the adoring fans return to St James’ Park next season.

He exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:

“You see little clips of him and he’s very good. Will he be tempted to move? Probably.

“I haven’t read into his interviews about what he’s been saying, but if he is thinking, just wait. Wait until the fans come back because if you produce some of the stuff that you are, you will not leave because they will absolutely adore you.

“I think there’s nothing better than being at a club where the supporters absolutely love you.”

Mark Bailey and Neal Parlane remained together for the rest of the innings, Bailey finishing one short of his half century.A note of drama was added at the end, as thunder and lightening appeared around the Taupo area and rain began to fall. It is possible that had Parlane not hit the winning runs when he did, a long delay might have ensued.ND Coach Chris Kuggeleijn was understandably happy with his team’s performance. Former Premier League manager Paul Jewell believes that Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips could get found out at another club.

The Reds Academy graduate had made just one first-team appearance in an FA Cup tie last season prior to his flurry of appearances following Liverpool’s centre-back crisis this term.

But Phillips ended up turning out 20 times for Jurgen Klopp’s men, including both legs against Real Madrid in Europe’s elite club competition, and played every minute of the final five Premier League matches which helped Liverpool secure their place back in the Champions League.

He scored once during those 20 outings, the crucial second goal in the victory at Burnley in the penultimate game of the season.

Despite his outstanding form when called upon this season, the return of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez from injury and potential other centre-back additions mean that Phillips’ opportunities are likely to be restricted next term.

Both Burnley and Newcastle are already interested in the defender, although Jewell thinks that without world class players around him, he could become vulnerable.

He told The Transfer Tavern:

“It’s easy to say, but sometimes you go into a team which are less quality than Liverpool, you could get exposed, because he isn’t the quickest in the world.

“He’s done really well, he’s aggressive and is an honest professional but he’s got world class players around him – Trent one side, Robertson the other side, and the goalkeeper behind him.”

Revelado pelo Palmeiras, Patrick Vieira vive um recomeço em sua carreira. Como não ia jogar, melhor ficar 100% e acabou que recuperei graças a Deus – contou o jogador de 24 anos, ao LANCE!.

Patrick se machucou no fim da Série B. Ele chegou a tentar voltar a jogar, mas o problema seguiu o incomodando e sua última partida foi no dia 12 de setembro de 2015, na derrota do Náutico para o América-MG por 2 a 1. Desde então, o atleta deu ênfase em sua recuperação na Academia de Futebol, mas o processo foi complicado, com recaídas. Até se aposentar foi uma possibilidade cogitada.

– Pensei (em parar), quando tinha semana que parecia bom e não estava. Ficava a dúvida, o medo, sabe, mas sempre treinando e esperando que era questão de tempo de ficar bom. Mas agradeço a minha noiva (Amanda), a Deus, e toda minha família, cara, que sempre estiveram do meu lado. Depois de tanto tempo fora de sua rotina, o meia brinca que sente falta até de se concentrar. Com contrato até 2018 com o Palmeiras e revelado em um momento complicado do clube, quando houve o segundo rebaixamento em 2012, Patrick tem como sonho uma nova chance no Verdão. Mas sabe que seu principal foco agora precisa ser outro.

-O Cícero (Souza) me desejou boa sorte, para fazer um bom campeonato, e meu pensamento está todo voltando para jogar e fazer um bom campeonato. Só quero voltar a jogar bem, fazer gol, voltar a ter alegria de entrar em campo e depois é consequência. Meu foco é todo é em poder voltar a jogar, dar a volta por cima, depois vai ser reflexo do que eu passar. Como eu irei no campeonato, aí depois as coisas vão acontecer naturalmente – completou.

Pelo Verdão, Patrick Vieira fez 39 jogos e cinco gols marcados. No São Bernardo, ele jogará o Grupo A do Paulista, que também conta com:Corinthians, Ituano e Botafogo-SP.
