Keith Gillespie has told Football FanCast that Newcastle United should not sign Kyle Bartley from West Bromwich Albion this summer.

The Daily Telegraph reported earlier this week that the Magpies are keeping close tabs on Bartley ahead of a potential summer move.

Both West Brom and Newcastle are mired in relegation trouble; the Baggies are 19th, while the Magpies are currently 17th, just two points clear of Fulham.

Burnley are also interested, but any deal between Newcastle and West Brom may depend on the former’s survival as the season comes to a head.

Gillespie played for the club between 1995 and 1998 and he does not believe that any deal will excite the St James’ Park faithful, while he also maintains that a centre-back is not necessarily needed.

He told FFC: “They want the players that are going to excite them and bringing in a centre-half is not going to do that. Defensively, at times, they have been okay, so it’s not something that I would earmark.”

Indeed, Gillespie has insisted that Newcastle actually need more help going forward as they look to score more goals.

Their current top scorer is Callum Wilson, with 10 goals, while only Miguel Almiron has netted five or more.

Gillespie added: “I think you need players further forward, who are going to create, midfielders, maybe, depending on what way you’re going to play, get somebody up alongside Callum Wilson when he’s fit.”

وقال أمير مرتضى منصور في تصريحات صحفية: “الزمالك ليس طرفًا في أزمة مصطفى فتحي، هو طلب الرحيل والنادي لن يقف على أي شخص، وعرضنا الأمر على المجلس والجهاز الفني وتفاوضنا”.

وأكمل: “لا يوجد شيء اسمه صفقة سرية، وإعلان قيمة الصفقة لتوضيح أننا قمنا ببيع اللاعب وعرض التعاون لم يذكر أن التفاوض سري”.

وتابع: “رفعنا الضغط عن مصطفى فتحي وتم إيقاف التفاوض معه بشأن التجديد ولدينا هدف لتجديد عقد بعض اللاعبين”.

وأشار: “الزمالك له اسم كبير ولا يجوز انتظار موافقة لاعب من أجل التجديد، وهذا الأمر ينطبق على أي لاعب نقدم له عرضًا إذا لم يوافق به فينتهي الأمر”.

واختتم: “لن نجدد عقد لاعب بسبب حب الجمهور له، ولكن يتم التجديد لمن هو مفيد للفريق وتناسب طريقته معنا”.

Tottenham Hotspur got back to winning ways before the international break, seeing off Aston Villa to move back into top-six contention but they can count their lucky stars that a former target wasn’t available to haunt them.

That, of course, being Jack Grealish.

The England sensation has emerged as one of the best players in the Premier League right now, though it could’ve been an all too different story had Spurs secured his signature nearly three years ago.

According to The Sun, Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy had an opportunity to sign the attacker for just £6m as Villa, then cash-strapped fighting the prospect of administration and in the Championship, were willing to sell him to garner some desperate funds.

This is where the tough-negotiator let his greatest strength quickly become Spurs’ greatest mistake in recent times. Levy believed he could secure Grealish for £1m to £2m cheaper, so he boarded the plane for the club’s pre-season trip to Los Angeles mulling over the move.

By the time he landed, Villa had been sold to billionaires Nassef  Sawiris and Wes Edens, who quickly slapped an asking price of £40m on his head.

That has turned out to be a ghastly error, with the 25-year-old dynamo a shoo-in to feature for England at the summer’s European Championship on home soil.

Despite Villa battling relegation last season, Grealish still created the second-highest number of chances (91) in the Premier League. He was only second to Man City superstar Kevin De Bruyne (136) and ahead of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold (87), Willian (76) and Mo Salah (61). No Spurs player made the top ten, as per Squawka.

He has continued this fine form, ranking as the Premier League’s second-best player (7.73) as per WhoScored ratings, behind Harry Kane (7.78). Grealish has the same number of assists as Bruno Fernandes (ten) and only sits behind Kane and De Bruyne for that aspect, too.

Ahead of the January transfer window at the start of the year, the Midlands outfit quite rightly slapped a £100m price tag on his signature, as per the reliable Matt Law at the Telegraph, which would make him the most expensive British player of all time if anyone wants to pay it.

That number will surely only be rising as the season rumbles on, especially with him due back from injury after the break.

Comparisons to former Spurs great Paul Gascoigne and many a glowing endorsement ranging from being dubbed a “monster” by Joe Cole to being lauded “absolutely outstanding” by England boss Gareth Southgate, will only have Levy even more gutted, and perhaps even a little bitter.

Whether Grealish would’ve had this rise if he joined Spurs in 2018 remains to be seen, but it certainly seems to be the case that the north Londoners missed out big time.

They will surely forever regret that ghastly call from Levy.

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Steve Bull, who is a Wolverhampton Wanderers Hall of Famer, claims it was fantastic to see Ollie Watkins score for England but admits he must keep his feet on the floor.

Watkins scored his debut for England when he came on as a substitute against San Marino, which he followed up with a goal for Villa against Fulham to secure all three points on Sunday.

The former Brentford striker has been Villa’s talisman in front of goal this season having scored 13 goals, which is six more than Jack Grealish who is their second top scorer.

Speaking on why it was great to see Watkins score despite him being a Villa player and what he must do now, Bull told FFC:

“I think it’s absolutely superb for him. The Wolves fans will say ‘why are you talking about a Villa player’ but you talk about a player if he’s good.

“When you saw him score, his face looked like he was 16 or 17 and he could have cried because he couldn’t believe he had scored.

“That will put him in good stead now as long as it doesn’t go to his head and he keeps his feet firmly on the floor, because he’ll get some more chances.”

Aston Villa put their faith in Ollie Watkins this season when they splashed out and spent £28 million on a striker who had never played higher than the Championship before.

If Watkins can maintain his form for Villa, he could find himself in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros this summer as he is currently the sixth-favourite striker to make the squad, according to Sky Bet.

وأضاف: “أعلم أن الموسم الماضي لم يكن سهلًا على فابيو، ربما كان لديه المزيد من التوقعات للعب مع الفريق الأول، هذا الموسم أدركت الجودة التي يتمتع بها”.

Logo depois, o time da casa fez o gol da vitória por 1 a 0. Situação semelhante aconteceu contra o Palmeiras, quando Lyanco entrou no lugar de Rodrigo Caio. O rival acabou vencendo de virada, com dois gols de bola alçada na área no segundo tempo.

O rompimento não foi sacramentado na terça porque houve uma “turma do deixa disso”, que tentou reverter a decisão após Natel entregar o cargo. A instabilidade culminou no que o São Paulo chamou de “erro de comunicação”. Desta vez, porém, Leco já não conta mais com o ex-aliado para sua sequência na gestão e, na visão de quem acompanha a política do clube, ganhará um possível adversário para as eleições de 2017.

Há quem acredite que as partes façam um acordo para comunicar a saída de Natel apenas no fim do ano, para não atrapalhar ainda mais o time, que luta contra o rebaixamento no Campeonato Brasileiro. No entanto, a relação já passou ao grau do insustentável.

No São Paulo, a aspiração de Natel de ser presidente do clube passou a ser comentada com mais força nos últimos dias, a partir do momento em que o o agora ex-vice geral começou a reclamar da postura do presidente Leco. Natel ficou incomodado por não ter sido consultado em algumas decisões, como na escolha de Marco Aurélio Cunha para substituir Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira. O sobrinho de Laudo Natel enxerga Marco como membro da oposição.

Leco, por sua vez, já vê o rompimento como necessário.A pessoas próximas, o presidente diz não ter interesse em alguém que não está totalmente focado em trabalhar pelo clube num momento de transição. A partir de agora, o adversário estará plenamente identificado, dizem. Seus aliados admitem, no entanto, que trata-se de mais uma situação política que precisará ser contornada.

Não é de hoje que o presidente recebe críticas internas pelo modo como conduz o clube politicamente.Desde que assumiu, em outubro do ano passado, Leco tem optado por postura classificada alheia à politicagem. Como exemplo, aliados citam a relação com conselheiros, sempre famintos por dar pitaco. Dizem que na maioria das vezes o mandatário dá de ombros e não se deixa levar pelas cornetas. Isso, ao mesmo tempo em que é elogiado, causa problema pois aumenta a satisfação interna. “Eu concordo com essa postura, mas não sei se ganha eleição”, foi frase dita por um membro da cúpula.

Roberto Natel, além de possuir o sobrenome mais sagrado no São Paulo, tem atuação política importante no clube. Ele é sobrinho de Laudo Natal, ex-presidente e patrono do Tricolor. Era um dos cotados para suceder Juvenal Juvêncio em 2014, competindo com Leco, quando o ex-presidente morto no ano passado optou por Carlos Miguel Aidar.

Leco ainda tem que lidar com a pressão da oposição, que se acalmou um pouco após o retorno de Marco Aurélio. A fase ruim do time, no entanto, contribui para críticas. A pressão dos oposicionistas foi a principal causa da queda do antigo diretor-executivo Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira.

Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi’s time at Elland Road will come to an end this summer, according to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay.

The once-capped Switzerland international joined the Whites back in 2014, arriving from Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee.

Berardi has gone on to make a total of 155 appearances for Leeds, performing solidly in that time and being more of a regular during his early years at the club.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, however, the 32-year-old has featured far less and he is now coming to the end of the one-year contract extension he signed last October.

Hay tips Berardi to leave Leeds

The reliable Hay confirmed that he doesn’t expect Leeds to retain Berardi’s services beyond this summer, such is the depth now at Bielsa’s disposal:

“And I won’t be surprised if Gaetano Berardi leaves at the end of his latest contract too.”

Hay continued to explain that the Whites are very well covered at centre-back, and thus it makes perfect sense for the club to move Berardi on, getting him off the club’s wage bill and freeing up funds for potential reinforcements to come in.

He is currently on approximately £32,ooo per week (the fifth highest paid player in the squad), and considering he suffered an ACL injury last summer, he is unlikely to fully return the same player again.

Leeds have moved on without Berardi and should now be looking at younger players who can help take the team forward in the long-term – perhaps another striker given the rumours surrounding Rodrigo’s future.
