Nottingham’s Forest’s "Aggressive" Target Agrees New Move

Nottingham Forest have suffered a blow after learning that Liverpool midfielder James Milner has agreed a deal to join Brighton and Hove Albion, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

What's the latest on Milner's future?

The Premier League veteran’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season, and whilst the Reds reportedly do intend to offer him an extension, it’s not something that’s high on their list of priorities, meaning it’s likely that he will become a free agent in the summer.

According to 90min, Evangelos Marinakis and Steve Cooper were interested in a deal to recruit the 37-year-old alongside top-flight rivals Leeds United, with both clubs hoping that he would wait until the conclusion of the campaign to make a decision on his future, but it would appear that he’s already secured his next destination.

Taking to Twitter, Romano revealed that Milner is expected to sign for Brighton on a free transfer ahead of the 2023/24 term, with the Seagulls having moved quickly to get this deal over the line. He wrote:

“Brighton are set to sign James Milner, here we go — the final proposal and all the clauses have been accepted. Deal will be valid until June 2024. Milner will join Brighton on free transfer from Liverpool; second signing imminent after João Pedro deal completed.”

Liverpool midfielder James Milner.

Is Milner joining Brighton a blow to Forest?

Milner isn’t getting any younger so he would have only been a short-term signing for Forest, but with the leadership qualities that he could have added to the squad being Liverpool’s vice-captain, alongside his “aggressive” style of play, as lauded by journalist Josh Bunting, Cooper has definitely suffered a transfer blow by missing out.

The Merseyside central midfielder, who has bags of experience at this level having clocked up 615 appearances in the top-flight, has won 12 tackles from 22 players challenged this season so isn’t afraid to get stuck in and win back possession for his team, but is equally a threat going forward, posting 221 goal contributions since the start of his professional career.

England’s former international will also knows what it takes to compete and be successful having secured 12 trophies since bursting onto the scene, not to mention that he’s also participated in the likes of the Champions and Europa League, alongside the World Cup for the Three Lions, as per Transfermarkt.

Finally, Milner would have brought unbelievable versatility to the Midlands with his ability to operate in a remarkable 11 various positions all across the pitch, but a deal clearly just wasn’t meant to be at the City Ground.

Why Did Alfie Haaland Get Kicked Out Of The Bernabeu?

Fans online have reacted after Erling Haaland’s father Alfie was escorted out of a corporate box at the Santiago Bernabeu having allegedly been ‘insulting’ and ‘throwing food’ at Real Madrid supporters.

Why did Alfie Haaland get kicked out of the Bernabeu?

It was a clash of giants in the Champions League semi-final last night as Manchester City made the trip to Spain to take on Los Blancos.

The home team showed their class in a moment of brilliance from Vinicius Junior as the Brazilian blasted in a first-half rocket to give Madrid the lead.

City, however, managed to come away with a draw thanks to a similarly superb effort from Kevin de Bruyne, also drilled in from outside the box.

That was enough to see the game end all square at 1-1 and that scoreline suggests that goalscoring machine Haaland perhaps wasn’t at his best on the night.

As per SofaScore, he finished the game with only 21 touches – this was the least of any player on either side to have started the game and is eight fewer than goalkeeper Ederson.

Watching on in the stands, it seems something apparently angered his father – although it might not have been Haaland’s ineffective performance – as he was spotted in footage shared online having some sort of confrontation with Real Madrid fans.

As you can see, even as he’s about to be escorted out, Alfie can’t help but sarcastically smile and wave at the Santiago Bernabeu crowd below him as they sing “Adios”.

The striker’s father has since said: “Ok, Real Madrid fans were not happy we were celebrating KDB goal. Other than that, we had to move because Real Madrid fans were not happy with 1-1”.

With the footage being circulated on Twitter, it’s safe to say some supporters didn’t condone the behaviour.

Some fans certainly seem to think it means a move to Real Madrid is now unlikely for the £375k-per-week City star.

Either way, many of the City supporters loved it…

Confident Australia meet pressured South Africa

Australia can step closer to the tournament final with a victory over South Africa to follow their opening bonus-point win over West Indies

The Preview by Daniel Brettig06-Jun-2016Match factsTuesday, June 7, 2016
Start time 1300 local (1700GMT)Big PictureAustralia performed to expectations in their opening match with a crushing six-wicket win over West Indies; South Africa most certainly did not, as they were bundled out for 188 in their four-wicket loss to the hosts. The deflating nature of the loss to West Indies can only compound the pressure South Africa are feeling as they try to right the wrongs of their poorest domestic summer in recent memory, and in Steven Smith’s team they are not likely to be gifted many opportunities to regain their equilibrium. AB de Villiers’ men are going to have to lift their game substantially. It is doubtlessly true that the Australians learned a lot from being able to watch the opening match rather than participate in it. They bowled first as West Indies did in the first match, and found in the afternoon air a little early assistance for the pacers before the spin bowlers ripped through the hosts. Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa proved a potent slow-bowling duo with a little help from Glenn Maxwell, and a few of the shots played by West Indies’ batsmen were redolent of nothing so much as those offered by South Africa when Sunil Narine spun a similar web. While this is undoubtedly a South African side in decline, they still possess enough players of class to challenge Australia. One of these men may be Morne Morkel, curiously omitted from game one, but now fresh for the task of cutting through the Australian top order – a strength that can be undermined by exposing the less consistent operators batting beneath them. Similarly, de Villiers and Hashim Amla are players of a standard capable of taking the fight to Lyon and Zampa, even if the pitch will be in the bowlers’ favour.Form guide(last five completed games, most recent first)
Australia WLWLL
South Africa LWWWLIn the spotlight Australia’s top four is very strong, but on recent evidence Glenn Maxwell is battling to justify his position at No. 5, particularly when he is followed by a similarly jumpy Mitchell Marsh and the bowlers. A duck against West Indies will not help Maxwell’s confidence, and he needs to demonstrate for the captain Smith, the interim coach Justin Langer and the selector on duty Trevor Hohns that he is capable of multi-dimensional innings, rather than simply indulging in explosive but brief stays at the crease. On turning pitches he can expect to be needed at a critical moment sooner or later.Having struck 92 in South Africa’s warm-up match, Hashim Amla was purring along nicely enough against West Indies before misreading Narine and providing the start of a batting trough that cost South Africa the match. Amla’s touch and concentration seem ideally suited to the slow and challenging Guyana surface; de Villiers and coach Russell Domingo will be hopeful of something more substantial against Australia.Team news A strong display by the bowlers should mean an unchanged XI for Australia, though George Bailey is waiting in the wings should the selectors choose to bolster their batting in testing conditions.Australia (probable): 1 David Warner, 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Usman Khawaja, 4 Steven Smith (capt), 5 Glenn Maxwell, 6 Mitchell Marsh, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 Mitchell Starc, 9 Adam Zampa, 10 Josh Hazlewood, 11 Nathan LyonMorkel and Wayne Parnell are pressing for recalls after South Africa’s opening defeat, while Rilee Rossouw is the man set to make way whenever Faf du Plessis recovers from a finger injury.South Africa (probable): 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Rilee Rossouw, 4 AB de Villiers (capt), 5 JP Duminy, 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Chris Morris, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 Morne Morkel/Kyle Abbott, 10 Aaron Phangiso, 11 Imran TahirPitch and conditions The same Providence Stadium pitch as used for Sunday’s match between Australia and West Indies should only be slower and lower this time around. Forecast weather is clear and humid.Stats and trivia Australia and South Africa have met twice in ODIs in the Caribbean before, both matches won by Ricky Ponting’s side on their way to victory at the 2007 World Cup. South Africa, however, were victorious the last time the two sides met in a tri-series, winning the final of a tournament that also featured Zimbabwe, in Harare in 2014.Quotes “As a bowling unit I think we pride ourselves on limiting extras. I think we let ourselves down [giving up 14], there was a bit of rust floating around.”
“Our assessment [of the pitch] was good. Unfortunately the execution wasn’t spot on in the last 10 overs with the bat in hand. We knew that it would be a turning track, very slow. That’s why we played the extra spinner.”

Aston Villa Ready Move For "Fantastic" Defender

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery wants the club to make an early summer move for Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

What’s the latest Aston Villa transfer news involving Walker-Peters?

Villa look set to be in for a busy transfer window ahead of Emery’s first full season in charge, with NSWE ready to back the Spaniard with a “huge” summer spending spree.

A number of players have been linked with a move to the Midlands in recent months, including a new right-back. Villa were name-checked with an interest in Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Walker-Peters last month, and an update has emerged on the latter of the two English full-backs.

According to sources close to TEAMtalk, Villa are hunting a quick deal for Walker-Peters after Southampton’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed last weekend. Emery wants Villa to make an early swoop to ensure they can wrap up a deal quickly, with Villa ready to make their move.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery.

How has Walker-Peters performed this season?

Walker-Peters, who actually shares the same agency as Villa right-back Ashley Young, made a permanent move to St Mary’s from Tottenham back in 2020 following a loan spell.

In total, the 26-year-old has made 118 appearances for Southampton, 36 of which have come during the current campaign. The England international has contributed to 10 goals on the south coast and appears to be at the top of his game with a career-high €25m Transfermarkt valuation.

As per WhoScored, Walker-Peters has averaged a match rating of 6.57/10 – the same score as Matty Cash, whereas Young averages a slightly better rating of 6.58/10.

The Saints man has recorded an impressive 1.6 dribbles per game, more than any Villa player, while also averaging 1.9 tackles per 90. He has been hailed as "outstanding" by Danny Higginbotham and called “fantastic” since joining Southampton by pundit Micah Richards, so Walker-Peters could therefore prove to be a shrewd addition in the Midlands.

Young is 37 years of age, so Villa will sooner or later have to replace the experienced defender, with Walker-Peters possibly that man to come in and rival Cash. Villa may also take advantage of Southampton’s relegation, potentially opening up the door for a cut-price transfer, and it looks as if it will be one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.

Surrey out of bottom two as Batty inspires last-ditch win

Surrey have dragged themselves out of the bottom two of the Championship first division after Gareth Batty and Stuart Meaker ensured a last-ditch win against bottom club Hampshire

It is hard to remember a Championship win that asked more of a bowling side. The pitch, for much of this game, looked like it would take the points and a few bowlers with it. Most of the Ageas Bowl pitches have. But with great focus and effort, and the sort of performance from Gareth Batty that will be remembered well beyond his career, Surrey sent Hampshire down for an innings and 13 runs.Batty was not so much leading from the front as picking up those around him, yapping under the helmet and then getting the job done himself. A century in the first innings began his work before two for 78 in the Hampshire reply was bested by a sensational six for 51 in the follow-on. Throw in Stuart Meaker’s reverse swing addled 18 overs of four for 40, and you wonder where the doubt in obtaining a result came from. But with 10 overs left in the day, hope had all-but gone. At the end of Batty’s 24th over (56th of the match) he walked duck-footed to mid off, shoulders slunk, cap in hand, dreading what might be. Of all long-form cricket’s gut punches, the handshakes after a drawn fixture take the most out of a skipper who has spent the last few hours on top. And Batty’s side had been ahead for the last three days.Summoning one last push, Batty returned to take two in his next over. Lewis McManus, having started the day with bat in hand, looked like he would finish it, too. But, after six hours and 21 minutes of crease time across both innings, he was finally dismissed to a fast arm ball. Three balls later, Andrew’s outside edge was found with a perfect off spinner. It was left to Meaker to finish things off. Late movement into the right hander did for Gareth Berg, before Mason Crane was the recipient of a bouncer that would haunt the most weathered opening batsmen, let alone a 19-year-old number 10.Surrey currently sit outside the relegation zone, 10 points away from Nottinghamshire, who have replaced them in the bottom two. Even if Hampshire were to win their game in hand with full bonus points, they would only go one ahead of Surrey. It bears reiterating: rarely will you see a side work so hard to achieve a four day win of this magnitude. On the evening of day two, Surrey’s players went to bed preparing themselves for what they knew would be six of the toughest sessions of cricket many of them will have experienced in their lives. So, too, did Hampshire. But Surrey, staying at the Ageas’ Bowl own hotel, will have drawn their curtains looking out onto the very field that would ask for as much energy and sweat as they could give and not necessarily provide anything in return. They needed 18 wickets to win the match: at least 18 chances to be created, certainly 18 to be taken to ensure that they are in control of their own destiny with five matches left to play. And while their own first innings of 637 for 7 taunted Hampshire throughout this match, it sent Surrey to sleep that night with a stark reminder of the unforgiving nature of this road. The skip was taken out of Crane’s step after 51 overs of toil.Even Surrey’s captain Gareth Batty was concerned, believing he was “thrown under the car” by Will Smith and Hampshire’s senior bowlers – Gareth Berg had the next greatest workload with 30 overs. “That wouldn’t be happening under my watch.”That part of Batty’s mantra as captain is to look at what is best for the individuals has, at times, seen him make calls that, from afar, confuse a touch. But given the task at hand, across two of the hottest days of the year, it was this sensitivity that ultimately saw Surrey triumph in extraordinary fashion. With 11 wickets to get on day four, the first ball to do something off the straight was the run out of Brad Wheal. Lewis McManus, who finished the first innings unbeaten on 133, was desperate to retain the strike when Aaron Finch, prowling the off side outfield, hurled down the stumps at the nonstriker’s end from all of 50 yards. Theirs was the longest partnership of the innings, clocking in at 37.1 overs. Surrey now needed 10 more wickets in the next 84 overs, having just taken the same amount from 133 overs. The first two to fall took 19 overs with them: Jimmy Adams tempted into one that left him late from Meaker, Tom Alsop edging Batty to first slip. For a while, that was their lot. The bowlers were cycled through, each getting a burst: an over or two at first to state their case. As “overs remaining” ticked to 44, Mark Footitt was removed from the Pavilion End after a spell of four that seemed to settle Smith and Ryan McLaren. The all rounder looked totally at ease while Smith, 18 from 112 balls at this point, was putting the finishing touches on a fort he had no intention of relinquishing.Batty brought himself on to bowl and, with various changes of pace, found a sliver of light shining through a gap in the closed drawbridge. Somehow a fizzed delivery snuck off Smith’s bat and between his legs to bump into his leg stump. Surrey were in. Adam Wheater, tea interval on the mind, left a reverse swinging delivery from Meaker that almost sent his off stump back to the pavilion with him. After tea, Batty came into his own. It was not so much the spin, but the changes in pace: the appreciation that keeping the interest of those around the bat – there were up to six for Batty – required enough fluctuations in delivery to put a batsman’s timing out of sync. Sean Ervine was hurried into guiding a ball to Aaron Finch at leg slip. Ryan McLaren pressing forward early and popping a catch up to Dominic Sibley at bat-pad.But so the overs ticked on, with four wickets still to get. But so Batty ticked on and these four wickets were claimed. He was naturally punchy in victory, using the opportunity to not only champion his young team, having grumbled away the opportunity to talk about his own century and eight wickets in the game, but to stick up for his coach, Michael Di Venuto, who has spent the aftermath of many a four day game fighting fires on Twitter. To Di Venuto’s credit, he looks to interact and appease each tweet sent his way, countering calls for change with the insistence that the hard work behind the scenes will soon be evident on the field. Most of the comments to Di Venuto comes from an honest place: fans worried about the plight of their club and wondering, out loud, what could be done differently. A handful have question Di Venuto’s merits as a coach. One or two have made their attacks personal.”I think it’s disrespectful. Unjust. The two run outs [Burns to remove Ervine and Finch to remove Wheal] – that’s from him working on us hitting the stumps. He takes all credit there. Nobody else. We’ve been very close in a couple of games and not got over the line. I think it’s very unjust for the man’s record, both as a player and a coach.”In victory, Surrey are bullish and you get a sense, from the way they have acquitted themselves throughout this match, that whatever they have left to give will be left on field before the season is up.”There have been a lot of people lobbing knives at us but we have pulled a few out of our back,” said Batty. “I say to them,- I hope you are enjoying the win tonight.”

Chelsea: 20 y/o Talent Could Usurp Koulibaly Under Pochettino

The majority of Chelsea’s signings under the new ownership have underwhelmed and underperformed, which has been a massive reason why the club is floundering in the bottom half of the table.

However, the Blues have reportedly agreed on a deal to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as the new man to turn their fortunes around and begin an extensive rebuild.

According to the Evening Standard, the Argentine has already identified a core set of players to centralise his plans around.

One man who Pochettino is reportedly keen to immediately integrate into the first team is Levi Colwill, who should oust Kalidou Koulibaly from the squad next season. The 51-year-old feels the young English titan could be 'instrumental to his project' due to his limitless potential.

Why does Levi Colwill deserve a chance at Chelsea?

The centre-back has made 19 appearances for Brighton during his loan spell and has excelled in Roberto De Zerbi’s possession-based, high-intensity, and aesthetically pleasing style of play.

In his last outing for the Seagulls – a dominant 3-0 victory over title-chasing Arsenal – the youngster produced an imperious display.

He registered five clearances, three interceptions, and two tackles, to silence the Gunners' normally relentless attack in what was something of a defensive clinic. The 20-year-old was also a pillar of composure and technique on the ball as he recorded 111 touches, 12 accurate long balls, and 85 completed passes.

It was an impressive reminder to his parent club of his reliability and solidity – two factors that the 2021 Champions League winners have desperately lacked over the past season.

Levi-Colwill

De Zerbi has been overjoyed by Colwill’s class and hopes the prodigy will stay on the South Coast.

“ I would like to work with him for another two, three, four years because it’s difficult to find another left centre-back with his qualities," he claimed.

“He’s a good guy, he’s improving a lot. This year his improvement has been fantastic and I hope he can stay with us.”

Chelsea must not allow this to happen as the 6 foot 2 colossus must be awarded first-team opportunities and already has the quality to replace Koulibaly.

Transfer insider and journalist Dean Jones recently told GIVEMESPORT that the former Napoli star may harbour “some regret” over his move to the capital. Meanwhile, Gunners legend Ian Wright has described the Senegalese as “fragile” as he looks uncomfortable on the ball and is regularly caught out of position.

Keeping Colwill, who is currently valued at £10m by FootballTransfers, would signify that the Chelsea hierarchy is looking to the future and due to his young age and potential, it would be a far wiser decision to develop this ace than attempt to save Koulibaly’s faltering English odyssey.
