Manchester United eye Lewandowski move

Manchester United are eyeing a deal for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as Erik ten Hag aims to boost his attacking options.

With plenty of areas on the pitch that needs improving, it’s arguably the attacking third that needs bolstered the most.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

Cristiano Ronaldo was the only United forward to score more than ten goals last season (24) and this is what contributed to the side finishing in sixth place in the Premier League. The overreliance on Ronaldo is something that needs changed going into next season, with the club only winning one match while he wasn’t in the squad.

This problem could soon be solved, with the Sun reporting that Man United have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski this summer, but this will depend on Barcelona and their interest in the player.

The German heavyweights are demanding a fee of up to €80m (£68m) and this shouldn’t be much of a problem for the club.

Judging by his goalscoring record over the previous few seasons, it could well turn out to be a bargain, especially if he can settle into life in the Premier League.

The superlatives don’t do the player enough justice, he has been dubbed “extraordinary” by Tony Cascarino and “world-class” by former Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose.

He could certainly have the same impact as Ronaldo did when he joined last season and Ten Hag urgently needs goals, and to make a signing which would signal a statement of intent.

In 44 Bundesliga and Champions League matches last season, the Pole scored a staggering 48 times, double the number of Ronaldo.

The 33-year-old wants to leave Bayern this summer, despite having a year left on his current contract and Barcelona remains the favourites to secure the services of the striker.

If, and it’s a big if, Ten Hag can somehow pull off the move, it would surely rejuvenate the squad and get Old Trafford rocking again.

Sunderland eye Bournemouth ace Brady

Sunderland are reportedly now eyeing up a move to sign Robbie Brady on a free transfer.

The Lowdown: Out of contract

Brady’s contract at AFC Bournemouth expires at the end of the month, meaning that he can leave as a free agent.

He only managed a mere seven appearances in total for the Cherries last season so looks unlikely to stay put, which has encouraged some clubs to sniff around for his signature.

The Latest: Interest

Writing in his latest piece for TEAMtalk, insider Graeme Bailey has revealed that the Stadium of Light outfit now hold an ‘interest’ in signing Brady, along with both Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town.

Manager Scott Parker would like him to stay for their upcoming Premier League campaign, but the club have yet to trigger the 12-month option in his deal.

The Verdict: Sign

Dubbed a player with ‘huge quality’ by Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake upon signing him last summer, Brady has four seasons’ worth of experience in the Championship, and so the 30-year-old would add a mentality edge that could help the Wearside club stay up next term.

The Republic of Ireland international is also someone that Alex Neil knows well having coached him at Norwich City, and so the Scotsman will know how to get the best out of him.

He has been full of praise for Brady in the past, calling him ‘dynamic’ with ‘good energy’ and a ‘real danger’ at set-pieces (talkSPORT), and so on a free transfer, this seems like it would be a smart piece of business from the Black Cats.

Celtic could be set to lose Josip Juranovic

Celtic could be set to lose full-back Josip Juranovic during the current summer transfer window.

What’s the news?

According to a recent Twitter post from journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juranovic is “expected to leave Celtic FC this summer as many clubs are following him.”

He then added that the defender “is attracting interests from Premier League clubs too after [a] great season for club and country.”

Back in August, the Hoops signed the Croatian from Legia Warsaw on a five-year deal worth a reported fee of £2.5m.

Terrible news for Postecoglou

Throughout his debut season with the Parkhead club, the 26-year-old made 35 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side across all competitions.

In those appearances, the previous summer’s recruit not only scored five goals and delivered two assists, but he also showed his versatility by playing in both full-back positions and even as a defensive-midfielder on one occasion.

This shows how useful he was for the Hoops boss throughout the campaign.

To further highlight what he offers the team, in the 26 SPFL games he played in, the full-back racked up 98 crosses, 22 interceptions and won 28 tackles, placing him in the top five for each statistic in Postecoglou’s squad.

This, once again, shows how much of an asset the player is for the club and why it would be a massive blow for them to lose him this summer.

It also shows what a great bit of business it was from them to get him to Parkhead in the first place.

Now that Romano has revealed this behind-the-scenes claim from Lennoxtown, it undeniably represents bad news for the Hoops boss and the Celtic supporters as well.

As a result, it would certainly be in Celtic’s best interest to make sure they can convince Juranovic to stay where he is.

With the prospect of potentially regaining the SPFL title as well as taking on some of Europe’s biggest clubs in the Champions League, this should definitely work in the Hoops’ favour in that regard.

However, if the player does fancy a move elsewhere, at least the Bhoys could demand a sizeable fee for him.

Tottenham: Journalist shares big Lenglet update

Tottenham Hotspur supporters may have been handed a pretty significant update amid the Lilywhites’ mooted move to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet.

The Lowdown: Paratici scattergun?

As Spurs continue to prepare for the 2022/2023 Premier League season, a central defensive upgrade is reliably believed to be on the agenda after sporting director Fabio Paratici sealed moves for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma.

The club are also in negotiations to sign Everton star Richarlison, and as Paratici spins many plates, his scattergun approach is in full force when it comes to their attempts to sign a new defender.

Indeed, Torino star Gleison Bremer and Bayer Leverkusen sensation Piero Hincapie have both been at the centre of possible moves from Spurs as well as Lenglet recently.

The Latest: Journalist shares big Lenglet update…

Now, as per Toni Juanmarti of major Latin sports outlet Relevo, a significant update has surfaced as Paratici attempts to sign the latter man.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He explained (via Twitter):

“Lenglet to Tottenham, now yes, he advances. Very important week. We will see…”

This follows other reports from Spain earlier in the week that an offer had been made and Lenglet was ‘close’ to agreeing to it.

The Verdict: Right man?

Lenglet’s £170,000-per-week salary (although some reports claim it’s much lower) could prove a sticking point in talks and we believe the likes of Bremer – who has stood out as one of Serie A’s best rising players in recent seasons – and Hincapie – dubbed South America’s best young defender – are far more impressive targets.

If the club are to match Conte’s ambition, signing Lenglet, who has struggled for game time at Barcelona, should ideally be viewed as a last resort for Paratici and co.

Indeed, even someone like Joško Gvardiol, who has been linked from RB Leipzig, arguably comes as a more exciting target also.

West Ham: Moyes interested in Scamacca

It is no major secret that West Ham United are on the hunt for a new centre-forward addition, having been left with current number 9 Michail Antonio as their only, recognised centre-forward over the last 18 months or so, following the exit of club-record flop, Sebastien Haller.

While the Jamaica international has held the fort fairly impressively – bagging ten league goals in each of the past three seasons – his inability to provide a consistent goalscoring threat across an entire campaign has no doubt been an issue.

The Hammers’ European adventures – which will continue next term – have only heightened the need for an additional forward, with it foolish to think that Antonio can shoulder the goalscoring burden for another season across all fronts.

One name who had previously emerged as a potential target last summer was England international Tammy Abraham, with David Moyes and co seemingly primed to pluck the towering striker from London rivals, Chelsea.

As it proved, the Blues academy graduate instead went on to join Italian side AS Roma in a £34m deal, going on to show the Irons just what they had missed out on following a truly staggering debut campaign at the Stadio Olimpico.

Under the tutelage of serial-winning coach, Jose Mourinho, the 24-year-old went on to score 26 goals in all competitions for the Serie A side, helping the club end their lengthy barren run by claiming the Europa Conference League.

That form has seen him tipped with a return to the Premier League – amid reported interest from Manchester United – although as for West Ham it would appear that that ship has sailed, with reports that the Giallorossi have slapped a £100m price tag on his head.

Despite that setback, however, GSB could well have identified a suitable alternative this summer in the form of Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, with the 6 foot 5 brute sharing a number of statistical and stylistic similarities with Abraham, as per FBref.

According to 90min, the London Stadium outfit have made contact regarding a potential deal for the 23-year-old – as well as that of teammate and compatriot Giacomo Raspadori – following what was a real breakthrough campaign for the imposing striker last time out.

Fresh from netting eight goals in 26 league games on loan at Genoa during the 2020/21 campaign – his first full season in the Italian top-flight – the former PSV youth product went on to net 16 league strikes for his current side in a blistering goalscoring spree, with such form reportedly sparking the attention of Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Dubbed “complete” by Italy U21 coach Luigi Di Biagio, the £27m-rated ace has also forced his way into Roberto Mancini’s plan at senior international level, featuring seven times for the Azzurri thus far.

Although it could take as much as €45m (£39m) to prise him from his homeland, the Hammers will not want to risk missing out on the £3.2k-per-week starlet as they did so with Abraham last year.

Like the Englishman, Scamacca is a towering and imposing presence in attack and one that would seemingly thrive in a Moyes system, with his height and finishing prowess offering a quality alternative to that of Antonio.

AND in other news, Moyes plotting move for “special” £45m “baller”, he’d be a “superstar” for West Ham

Forest agree Williams & Richards deals

Nottingham Forest have now made four signings in the summer transfer window in a bid to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on two more potential signings.

What’s the latest?

According to Midlands reporter for The Daily Telegraph John Percy, Nottingham Forest have deals agreed for Neco Williams and Omar Richards.

Percy tweeted:

“NFFC set to sign Neco Williams and Omar Richards, with both deals now agreed. Williams fee nearer to £17m in total and his signing from #LFCis regarded as a huge statement by Forest. Richards will join from Bayern for around €10m.

“Excellent business so far from Forest, with the summer spending around the £60m mark – with more to come. Statement of intent from owner Evangelos Marinakis, with @mil7iadis also playing a major role.”

Supporters will be buzzing

Nottingham Forest supporters will be buzzing that the club is getting plenty of players in to bolster their team ahead of their long-awaited return to the top flight to give them the best chance of competing next season.

Williams is a great young prospect that has proven Premier League experience playing at Liverpool, but has also shown he is more than capable of providing high-quality performances at both club and international level.

The Welshman has not only contributed to Wales’ first World Cup qualification in 64 years, but he also went on loan to Fulham in the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old right-back was able to shine when given the golden opportunity to play first-team football starting regularly in the Championship, opportunities he wasn’t often fortunate enough to gain regularly at Anfield.

Williams scored two goals and delivered two assists, while making one key pass. He also made 2.6 tackles and 1.3 interceptions on average per game, and won the majority of his duels (53%) and was successful in completing the majority of his dribble attempts too (51%) over 14 Championship appearances, proving that he is very effective on the right flank.

Richards will be joining the newly-promoted side to complete the wing-back partnership with Williams at Nottingham Forest next season and will be making his move from the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, with the hope that he can inject some of the winning mentality and experience he has earned in the German side over in the Midlands.

With that being said, it’s looking like Forest are building a team for the future with all of their new signings under the age of 26, putting Steve Cooper in a great position to retain their Premier League status for years to come.

Manchester City eye Josko Gvardiol move

Manchester City have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

What’s the news?

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, the Croatian defender tops the Premier League champions’ list of potential transfer targets to replace Nathan Ake, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

After making 52 senior appearances for Dinamo Zagreb in which he scored four goals and provided three assists, Gvardiol moved to his current club last summer.

Throughout he debut campaign in Germany, the 20-year-old ended up making 45 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions, chipping in with two goals and three assists.

Better than Dias

It wasn’t too long ago that City splashed out on another one of Europe’s top young centre-backs, as they paid £65m in 2020 to bring Ruben Dias to the Etihad Stadium from Benfica.

Now that the club’s attentions reportedly turn to Gvardiol, the youngster could end up being a better version of the Portugal defender in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Comparing their 2021/22 league campaigns, in which both players made 29 league appearances for their respective teams, the Leipzig defender won more tackles and made more successful pressures, blocks, interceptions and clearances than City’s Portuguese star.

Gvardiol even ended the season with a higher percentage of aerial duels won and more shots at goal than Dias.

With that in mind, it’s safe to say that the former Dinamo Zagreb youngster certainly has the defensive credentials to be a useful addition to City’s ranks, especially if Ake ends up leaving.

To get a better insight into what sort of player the 20-year-old is, former Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic had this to say about the young centre-back: “Gvardiol is an extraordinary talent. He can play great long balls, is a fine technician and is physically very strong.”

According to CIES, the Leipzig defender is currently valued at around €120m (£102m), which shows the sort of money that it could take to get the player out of Germany.

Should Ake find himself waving goodbye to the Etihad in the coming weeks, City should definitely make an approach to Leipzig to see if they would be willing to part ways with Gvardiol, who has shown that he seems to have what it takes to be a solid Premier League defender.

Klopp ‘really wants’ to sign Bellingham

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ‘really wants’ to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed.

The Lowdown: Bellingham staying put

The 19-year-old is a player of enormous promise, having burst onto the scene for both Dortmund and England, being described as ‘scary’ by international team-mate Jack Grealish.

Bellingham has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, with midfield seen as the one area in Jurgen Klopp’s squad which could do with another strong signing.

The teenager looks set to stay at Dortmund for another year, though, before departing for pastures new in 2023.

The Latest: Liverpool still keen on Bellingham

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs talked up Liverpool’s interest in Bellingham, claiming that Klopp is desperate to snap him up at some stage.

The reporter stated:

“Liverpool could still add another midfielder, and they will also plan ahead for future windows, with Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham a player Jurgen Klopp really wants.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“398089″]

The Verdict: More likely next summer?

While it would be a big surprise if Bellingham ends up leaving Dortmund this summer, it does feel as though Liverpool could be the favourites to snap him up this time next year.

The England international looks like he’d be a perfect addition to a Reds midfield which is beginning to age, possessing the athleticism, technical brilliance and team ethic to thrive in a Klopp team over many years.

[freshpress-poll id=“399042″]

At 19, he is already a key figure for Dortmund, registering three goals and eight assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances last season, and he could eventually become be the next great addition to Liverpool’s midfield.

Reliable journalist drops key Wolves claim

Wolves striker Fabio Silva has signed a contract extension at Molineux as he joins Anderlecht on loan, reliable journalist Steve Madeley has confirmed.

The Lowdown: Silva deals Anderlecht move

The 20-year-old has failed to set the world alight at Wolves to date, scoring just four goals in 62 appearances after arriving as a big-money signing back in 2020.

Because of that, Silva has been loaned out to Anderlecht for the 2022/23 season, as he looks to earn regular playing time and return to Wanderers a better player.

Another key update has also emerged regarding the striker, however, with Wolves showing they do still hold faith in his long-term potential.

The Latest: Madeley confirms new deal

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Madeley confirmed in three words that Silva had signed a new deal at the club while discussing the Anderlecht switch:

“New contract signed.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“398117″]

The Verdict: Good experience for youngster

There is no doubt that Silva has been hugely disappointing to date, especially given his £35million price tag, but this loan move could do him the world of good.

[freshpress-poll id=“399044″]

He simply wasn’t earning the playing time at Wolves to get into any rhythm, with only six starts coming his way in the Premier League last season and others ahead of him in the pecking order.

The hope is that Silva thrives at Anderlecht, realises his potential and returns to Wanderers a far more confident and rounded player. At 20, he certainly still has time on his side.

Tottenham: Hutton reacts as Spurs make Saint-Maximin move

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender turned BBC pundit Alan Hutton has given his verdict as the Lilywhites make contact to sign Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Lowdown: Spurs make approach…

The north Londoners, following their array of summer signings early this window, don’t appear to be entirely finished despite focusing most of their efforts on outgoings as things stand.

Tottenham are said to remain in the market for a new creative presence and could even sign another centre-half despite sealing a deal for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet on loan.

Saint-Maximin, according to reliable reports, is of interest to Spurs and managing director Fabio Paratici with The Athletic even claiming that they have made contact in the form of enquiries.

The Latest: Hutton reacts…

Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League full-back claims he would be ‘surprised’ if the Magpies star ended up completing a move to north London.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-3/” title=”Tottenham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Hutton explained:

“Antonio Conte plays a particular way, it’s structured, everybody has to be fit, everybody has to be running and do their bit. Saint-Maximin is a bit of a maverick, he just gets on the ball and does what he wants to do. I don’t think you can get away with that in an Antonio Conte team now.

“£40m for a guy I don’t think they need to I’d be surprised if that did actually happen.“

The Verdict: Good call?

While Hutton makes a reasonable point, Saint-Maximin as an exciting rotational option would certainly be ideal – there may be games where teams sit deep and Conte requires something a little out of the ordinary.

The Frenchman stood out as a key player for Newcastle last season, playing more minutes than anyone under Eddie Howe whilst averaging a fantastic 4.3 completed dribbles per 90 (WhoScored).

There are few who would argue his obvious threat going forward with Howe calling Saint-Maximin a ‘huge, huge player’ for his side and Spurs arguably in need of an extra sprinkling of creative dust to complete their summer rebuild.
